A prominent fight doctor says Andrei Arlovski should no longer be cleared to fight.

But since a doctor cannot force an athlete to retire (but can certainly suggest it), let me address this question from a slightly different and more appropriate perspective. Should Arlovski be medically cleared to fight again?
    Absolutely not.
Since January 2009, Arlovski has suffered three documented major concussions (to Emelianenko, Brett Rogers and now Sergei Kharitonov). Many other minor concussions went unnoticed, and any fighter is going to take countless routine blows to the head during sparring and training.

Ongoing research suggests that repetitive blows to the head (including those that do not produce concussions or any symptoms at all) are cumulative in nature and can be injurious to the brain. This battered brain syndrome is called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and is very serious.

He really needs to quit, hes one of my favourite fighters but its painful to see him getting KOed so easily, and seemingly looking lost after the first clean hit to the chin.

He still have the skills but the only way he could avoid getting knockout is to tke the fight to the ground. I haven't seen much of arlovski's ground game since he submitted sylvia.

This is where you need to be careful, most of us here are fans and we love fighting sports such as boxing, K1 and MMA BUT these men are human, with people around them that love them.

It no good saying 'oh yeah let see him fight in other orgs or smaller shows against lesser fighters because we will see him get knocked out again and its not good for his brain, mind and body.

He has another 50 years on this planet, and with his looks, physique can look for another avenue of income such film roles, personal instructor to the stars, MMA trainer.

We should all stop trying to bleed every fighter dry until there is nothing but there soul fighting on, just because we enjoy watching them fight.

Hearing that a doctor said that Arlovski shouldn't be cleared to fight reminded me of this:

probably but then big foot didn't put him to sleep and he is fighting at an elite level.

i guess you need the commissions to some how authorise a step down fight. if he is still getting put away at a lower level then you have to call it a day.

he always looks okay until he gets hit with a good shot.

They say that taking a prolonged beating is more debilitating than getting iced quickly. That said AA's punch resistence seems to be zero at this point. It can be argued though that the men he suffered the quick kayoes against are there heavy-handed son of a guns: Fedor, Rogers, Kharitonov. Silva is heavyhanded too but despite his immense size doesn't quite carry the one-punch pop of the aforementioned trio.

I actually liked him in the universal soldier movie he made a while back. He showed off some good moves in the film that us mma fans could recognized and some flashy action movie stuff too :hat. He should take care of himself and retire if not for himself and his loved ones then for the love of the sport :thumbsup
