It is too bad that someone that knows nothing about the sport has so much influence. There is a short video at the bottom of the article but you may have to click to reload it. http://www.gctelegram.com/news/youth-boxing-9-2-11
Yeah **** them, its a sport like any other, they have no right to tell kids what spor they can and cant get involved in.
Yea, but it is totally cool to put our kids in full body armor and have them crash into each other at full speed. (American Football) Part of sports is the risk of being hurt/injured. Comes with the territory. If you don't want to risk getting hurt, don't play, or don't let your kids play. Very simple.
I was never concussed boxing but I often saw double and had full game memory lapses training and playing football. Boxing is much safer than football. When was the last time you heard of someone crippled for life from boxing.
i do understand wer this article is coming from after all it is fighting and at a young age..but i as a goalkeeper can 1st handidly say ive had more injuries (head, hand, back and leg) goalkeeping than boxing esp when i was younger..it can happen in any sport..but im guessin boxing is being targeted because its a sport where your actually going out to try and hurt your opponent....but i think the article is a fart in a hurricane no1 is going to take head...surly...
Do u have any idea how many lives Inner city boxing saves, the best thing for troubled youth ask Gary Russell.
Freak **** happens in sports, that's all I am saying. Even a kid in Lacrosse died after a ball hit him in the chest. Stopped his heart. You hear of college athletes dropping, professionals, you name it. Sports are rough, if it was easy, everybody would do it. Doctors need to butt out of other people's lives. If we want their advice, we will ask and pay for their consultation. They shouldn't be dictating to the masses.
A lot. Not enough unfortunately. Kids need a release for some of their emotions/aggression, and I've always been a big fan of sports keeping kids off the street and out of trouble. There should be MORE boxing gyms, not less in my opinion. Completely agree with you on that one. Boxing is great, especially for kids going through the University of Hard Knocks. It's great for building confidence and discipline.
My personal opinion is that you can start learning the basics/fundementals at any age, but as far as contact even with headgear goes I think 12-14 is the right age to start.
We had this crap years ago in the UK, but fortunately nowadays boxing is pretty much universally reconised as doing far more good for kids than harm.
way to get the kids off the streets. way to go. pecker heads. teach them how to be street pharmacists
in toronto, there was articles about this all over newspapers a few weeks ago, when it was originally posted
