In 1996 amateur boxing was 23rd on the safest sports(injury free) in some study. I remember 500 boxers were looked at.
My friend has really bad knee(s) from soccer and if something goes wrong he may limp for a long time.
Not read the article I'll be honest but I'm sure there are many more dangerous sports than properly regulated amateur boxing
I understand the concern.... and that is why the kids and parents should think about it heavily before entering boxing. That being said.... americas favorite, and biggest sport, American Football, is completely horrible for the brain, and yet it remains a staple passtime of todays youth of all ages. To single out boxing is absurd, imo.
its their license on the line.. you got to go full MRI and other BS to make sure your head is okay to function..
More pussification of America......we are raising a whole generation of Twats !!! My boys have had broken noses.hands . collar bones....in baseball and footbal....Nothing in Boxing !!!
I tend to agree because boxing helped me I started as a insecure 12 year old and it gave me confidence. I also just heard from my barbershop this guy I know who would get pounded on day after day at the gym committed suicide.... Boxing probably hurts more than helps really. I mean it's kind of like we're in the days of gladiators. I've seen young teenagers get tko'd in sparring & they never return to the gym lol It's definitely better than football but still getting punched in the head is no bueno for a lot of people out there
American Football is a fvcked up sport especially for youths. Too much pads and equipment. If you want to make the sport safer, lose the equipment. Seems counterintuitive but consider a sport like rugby (which I played in college). You will hurt yourself in the process if you try to tackle like in football. There's a false sense of safety in the equipment. Football players will even tell you, people are crazy playing Rugby with no pads or helmet.
Mate, you can die in boxing, that's why you don't play it, be very serious or you could get hurt, you do the same in football you get took off the pitch for being **** and get a bollocking...Snapped leg in football is as bad as it gets, the only people that die on the pitch have underlying health problems, it really is no comparison !
I had to have a word about my boy sparring someone who was 3 yrs older than him, the kid was being told to hold his power back about 3/4 times but kept it up. He should've been matched hard as a lesson imo in his next spar, 10 and 13 is huge difference if the older boys not playing the game
Yeah, my local gym was Savage. I saw a 15 year old kid tko'd by this disgruntled army veteran who was well into his 20's. Of course the poor kid never came back to the gym after this. That's just one example, I guess it has to do with shitty coaches more than anything really. Some coaches have a sink or swim mentality.
Yep. Seen a few of those. And that army guy is a piece of ****. Good gyms will develop boxers at different paces. Of course they gotta be challenged, but that's too far.
