HBO's Legendary Nights, superb my fav being Chavez v Taylor. 12 x great hald hour films on some of the biggest fights on HBO.

Also if you have ESPN America watch Muhammad and Larry, brilliant. Larry Holmes comes across brilliantly and does a superb rendition of Koll and the Gangs 'Ladies Night' replacing the word Ladies with Larry's

And Ipresume you mean Ali/Clay Liston I for Rd 4, as their second fight only had the 1 rd. Unless you mean Rd 1 of the 2nd fight?

 

Looking at that again it just looks like you got ALi Liston I and II interchanged.

Yeah, switch those two, quick typing while the video was playing. Round 1 i.e. the phantom punch round and round 4 when Liston had the chemicals on his gloves.

 

Some wild stuff in the video about Dempsey--saying his wife was a prostitute and he was the pimp.

 

More on Dempsey and Tunney. They're talking about the involvement of Al Capone in the fight. Didn't recall that.

Then Pacheco talking crap and saying Tunney was unable to get up earlier than what he did. Tunney looks clear-headed the whole time he was down. To me he clearly could have gotten up much sooner, if he had too.

Of course, we will never know if he would have been able to dance away as well as he did if not have the extra few seconds. But that is Dempsey's fault for not following the rules.

 

yes, yes and yes what a facinating and tragic look at one of british boxing greatest era's and weight classes! would recomend to anyone who hasn't seen my only slight critisism is that its on VHS and the quality is a bit shite!

 

The Johnny Owen story definitely worth a gander. Even better is 'The Long Journey' but not sure if thats on youtube like the first one is.

i upped an ali doc the other day.

got a lennox lewis one to put up in the build up to the bruno fight.

but the quality of the tape is a bit dodge.

need to sort the tracking out. :roll:

 

ESPN's 30 for 30 series did a documentary on Ali vs Holmes.

Makes for compelling yet tragic viewing.
