"Taking a blow" is an old expression for pausing for a few deep breaths of oxygen. Its not so crazy or unusual. Merchant drunk or diminished by age is still a better reporter and interviewer than most, including the douche apparent, Max Kellerman.
I am a Merchant fan but it has nothing to do. That was an appropriate comment as Taylor clearly punched non-stop for full 2 minutes and Kelly was shaking it off - last 20 to 15 seconds of the second. But having used another term like a breather would be convenient. What does the initials cvw on the smilie mean anyway?
