See above answer. Any time a champion enters and leaves the ring with the belt around his waist, it counts as a successful title defense.

This is where the quote "you have to got to beat the champion to take the title" truly originates from. Not because a champion is given an automatic edge in close rounds or something like that.

    No contests also count.

Refer to Hopkins and the first Allen fight.

Think of it like this. If you have a castle and some ****ing Orcs and Goblins are kamikazying themselves inside and climbing all over the ****, and they **** your guys up and mash some of your walls up, but you still prevent them from entering and over running it so they go home, then you have successfully defended your castle.

I, much like the OP, couldn't understand this in pure, rational boxing terms. I needed the crazy-ass LOTR/Warcraft explanation to clear things up.

    Thanks, Pac.

Yes it does count. Providing the draw is legitimate it should count.

Noone will ever tell me holyfield successfully defended against lewis. It's all about context.
