This is basically my view. An punch that lands on someone else's arm could be valuable for any number of reasons, including that it can block the other guy from getting off a punch or cause them pain and issues with their arms and shoulders. But by itself it is not a scored punch.

If you literally have a case where one guy lands a hundred punches on the arms and the other guy doesn't throw at all, you kind of have to give a round to the guy who is at least punching by default. But if it's not that extreme, then it's usually not enough to win a round. I'll score one good, hard, damaging punch to the face higher than ten punches landing on the arms any day. And that goes double when you have a fighter who blocks and parries a lot of punches with his arms as part of his style.

If no other punch lands other than the ones on the arm, I would give that fighter the round for outworking his opponent

Ask yourself this...would you rather be the guy that blocks with his arms or the guy that blocks with his face? Have a great day......

theoretically, everything above the waist is legal, albeit hitting behind the head

They don't do ****, so the mean ****. One solid power shot to the face scores more on my card than 20 shots to elbows and arms. They are "blocked punches." If anything, you give credit to the guy actually blocking the punches. You know, one of the major criteria for scoring: DEFENSE.

All this talk about "activity" is hilarious. It's code for: He couldn't land ****, but he was busy! I guess we'll just add that into the mix of scoring criteria:

    Clean Punching
    Defense
    Ring Generalship
    Effective Aggression
    Activity..........

No thought about the throat shot? Also, isn't a kidney punch in the back?

I've seen it in a Lonsdale Boxing Book, tailored for amateur boxers, JG.

    Yes. Those are "blocked punches."

Now did hitting the arms help Marciano win fights? Sure... but it wasn't on the scorecards that it was helping him. And are we comparing the impact of Marciano and Malignaggi now? There was a strategy involved with Rocky's method in regard to wearing opponents down, and if you think Paulie is doing the same thing: LOL.

    Again:

    CLEAN PUNCHING
    DEFENSE
    RING GENERALSHIP
    EFFECTIVE AGGRESSION

Using that criteria, there is noway you score that fight for Paulie. If you know how to score a fight that is.

Let me know when they add: Activity and Hitting Arms/Elbows... Then I'll score it different.
