Does a knockdown automatically mean a 10-8 round?

    :?

Just had a look at Tony Bellew's record and it says that he beat Andrejevs 39-37 on points over 4 rounds. Bellew was down in the 4th which means he would have only lost the round by a point. :huh

No, a boxer can be knocked down but do enough to bring the round back to a 10-9 (or to a 10-10, or even win the round in theory)

Used to be, but now it goes in the book as 10-10.

No mate. Its the "10 point must system" barring a points deduction 1 or both of the fighters must recieve 10 points.

If a boxer wins a round but gets knocked down then he usually loses the round 10-9.

2 points taken off for the knockdown, 1 put back on for winning the round.

Cunningham was knocked down in a round he was winning clearly against adamek it was given 10-9 wrongly and it had a big effect on the outcome. sometimes the judges don't even know the rules, another one is the first pacquiao/marquez fight, marquez KD 3 times should've been a 10-6 but a judge gave it a 10-7 again had an impact on the outcome.

don't be to down for not knowing because even the judges don't.

I don't know if things have changed as TBooze has alluded to but knockdowns(at least used to) count towards deductions, and be scored the same.

So if you won a round and were knocked down it was a 9-9 round.
The 10 point must system was in place, but fights are scored with that system in mind first and deductions take place afterwards(theoretically making any score under 10-10 possible).

I must admit I did see Harold Ledderman score a round not including knockdowns as deductions, meaning a round where both men were knocked down(one twice) was scored 10-8(he had it even before that) recently. While previously I've seen him apply the system I talked about above.

IMO knockdowns should count as deductions.

Barring deductions for fouls etc. the winner of a round will always get 10 points even if he's been knocked down in that round. If there are no deductions for fouls 1 or both of the fighters will get 10 points no matter how many knockdowns there have been.
