Then he would not be the prime Marciano that actually existed which is what I stipulated in the title of the thread, when I made it ,he would be some projected ,hypothetical hybrid that never actually existed and then would be as relevant as Anthony Joshua fighting Captain America or Bat Man!
Its quite simple, you replied to the wrong post and linked it with another to which I hadn't responded.
lol. If that's the case I think today's AJ would blow through Marciano. Too big, strong and athletically gifted.
"NO .I've never said or implied that, if you think I have then produce my post saying so, otherwise you are deliberately telling porky pies!" You implied that Rocky was champion despite being slow, unskilled, and crude. You've done that many times.
The Jennings fight never bothered me. He outboxed a quick unbeaten fighter, that was a quality win. Against Fury he looked gunshy and without a plan b. He looked as one dimensional as he ever had in his whole life. That wasn't being tagged hard by Sanders, it wasn't gassing against Purritty and Brewster, it was a 12 round fight were he showed nothing. Against Joshua he looked incredible. He came up short but he looked brilliant. It makes Fury's win look even better. I hope he has the rematch with Joshua.
I'm always honest about my posts. I don't have any agenda since I'm not a fan of any individual boxer. I just think Wlad looked really good in the loss, it's strange because Joshua seems to be getting more credit than Fury did when Fury beat a better version. So much so people are questioning whether Fury would beat "this Wlad". Mental.
Look at that right uppercut left hook combo from Joshua. Beautiful. Good 1-2s by Wlad as well but why could he never follow it up with anything.. This content is protected
Choklab made a similar point earlier in the thread and it is a fair point to make and worth noting, just not relevant to the discussion. Modern fighters have so many advantages over boxers of the past and these advantages are why most hypothetical head-to-head match ups in the HW division are viewed as mismatches to anyone with a sensible, unbiased outlook.
He tried but it just wasn't there, he was trying to land that big left hook but Joshua did amazingly well to have the sense to slip them.
Joshua actually reminds me of Joe Louis from a psychological standpoint. He has that ice cold calm self-belief!
I am a fan of Fury but after seeing Wlad last weekend I felt that version would beat Fury. I respect you as a knowledgable, fair poster, would you mind explaining why that is "mental"? I realise Wlad was older and inactive but I imagine if he fought with the type of hunger he did versus AJ, even if he missed and left himself open, would land often enough to drag Tyson into more of a fight where Klitschko's power advantage would come into play.
Rocky was a product of his environment. No weight training, no steroids, no teams of doctors and nutritionists. Just plain old conventional boxing training, a coach with a towel over his shoulder and 1950s diet. And I would not like to see Rocky any other way. Nobody on earth could expect Joshua to look the way he looks if he had to start his career in the 1950s. He would be a good fighter for sure but not what aesthetically impresses people today. Keep Joshua at 6.5" let him take up boxing in those days and see if he can make the grade in those conditions.
