There's a BIG difference between getting worked in sparring and knocked out. There is also a difference between getting worked in sparring by a guy your size and getting KNOCKED OUT in sparring by a guy 50 lbs lighter than you.
Dropped heavily? One knock down is not dropped heavily. Marciano weighed as much as that trio. Joshua has 50 lbs on Okolie. Do you see the difference? If Marciano got knocked out in sparring by a guy who weighed 135 lbs then his detractors would be screaming bloody murder.
I like hearing sparring stories as much as the next person but tales from the gym are not to be taken as indicative of what would or could happen in a legitimate fight. Didn't Joshua get dropped/stopped in the amateurs? That may have been a more relevant example of Joshua's supposed shaky whiskers for you to make, although I don't read too much into that either.
When people are describing this fight as a blowout I am making the argument that Marciano is very much alive in this fight and has as much ability to stop Joshua more so than Joshua has. There have been multiple accounts of Joshua getting stopped in sparring and there is definitely proof he got stopped in the amateurs. Size really intimidates people on this forum.
The counterpoint some might make is that Marciano never fought a super heavyweight of any class who could hit like a truck.
While I don't see "intimidates" as a very apt description of how some of us cite size more than makes you comfortable, I do view it as the mother of all edges when properly utilised. How else do you explain the cavemen who have won world titles on pretty much size alone? I agree only so far that Marciano has got a chance. I disagree it is a good chance and especially an edge against Joshua, my argument = size matters. A properly utilised size advantage of the proportion Joshua holds over Marciano would take an advantage in skills and style to overcome which Marciano likely doesn't possess and as far as I can tell has never demonstrated, impressive though he is against lighter opponents his own size.
I bet on Price last time out against Hammer(sp?) - a fool and his money…. So like I was saying the bigger guy always wins
Price looked like he might really be something at the start , crushing power, but his confidence was irrevocably shattered by the two Thompson defeats. Nice guy in the wrong game. If size didn't matter ,does anyone think Valuev would have held the title?
