It says allot that an 18 pro fight amateur is considered the best hwt in the world. Hwt boxing is at its lowest in my lifetime.
Marciano was quick? Bracketing him with Dempsey and Tyson for speed is a stretch It certainly isn't a golden age. Some of the challengers over the last ten/15 years would make Jess Willard look like Willie Pep for skills!
Personally I think the best era for the Heavies was the 70's. No you're not an Old Timer basher, just an Old Man basher.
I agree with you for the most part, but recently Bellew's win over Haye should make you appreciate the variety of intangibles that a smaller, less heavy fighter brings. I can assume Bellew wouldn't have been quite as strong at light heavyweight, but we can assume he was coming into the ring against Stevenson at 190+ pounds, a fight where he was stopped on his feet, pretty much defenceless. Then you have Haye who was what, 240? I know he injured his Achilles, but the 5 rounds prior he barely made a dent in Tony. The best modern example I can find that size isn't everything
Who was the best HW when 19/20 fight novice Cassius Clay toppled Sonny Liston? Also FW/SFW must also be the weakest you have seen them considering Lomachenko's run which another poster already mentioned but you ducked.
Brezeale took some monster shots in that fight I thought he was on the way out. Surviving that barrage does make Joshua's win look better imo. I'd have liked him to have been the substitute for that clown Fury against Parker, he volunteered himself. It would have been a much better fight.
Joshua had a pretty testing encounter with Dillian Whyte and prevailed. The last part of your post takes your opinions to new levels of self -opinionated pomposity, and absurdity!
Witherspoon 15 fights Bey 14 fights Smith 15 fights Williams 16 fights All gave Champion Holmes interesting evenings. Holyfield was cruiserweight champion of the world after 13 fights!
He is actually rated number 6 in the world by Ring Magazine, i'm sure you will find that a bit more palatable. What was Leon Spinks rated immediately after beating Ali? Leon would have had 8 fights by then. In March 79 after losing to Ali he was still as high as 4 so i assume he was noticably higher between the two fights. He would have had 9 fights when rated 4.
Why do you refer to him as been a 18 pro fight amateur? Joshua hasn't been a amateur fighter since he won the Olympic gold in 2012?
Irrelevant as no one is claiming Spinks was anything more than a novice when he faced an ancient Ali. Joshua's rating is a reflection of the horrid state of hwt boxing in today's world where not beating anyone and having 18 pro fights makes a fighter a yardstick as to an all time ranking of a former hwt titleholder.
