Would Cotto be worthy of ATG status with a win over Martinez?

I doubt it, but it goes a long way toward his legacy...

And he should be written off in this one, either like im reading. Cotto's a very live underdog in this.

It would put him darn close:

A win over Mosely, Margarito rematch, Judah, future champ Paulie, four world titles, etc.

No. But it would make a strong argument for a first ballot HOF. Interestingly I think as time passes his spirited effort against FMJ will enhance his legacy.

It'll put him on or near the cusp of the ATG's. As much as I like my fellow Boricua, I am troubled by the fact that he selected this fight as he is not a natural 160 pounder as is Sergio Martinez. "Maravilla" is quick and has great power making him in my mind as one of the best P4P fighters today. At age 38 he has lost a bit of quickness but makes up for it with the ring smarts. On that basis he should be odds on favorite. But if Cotto wins, it will put him among the best of the modern day boxers and, again, on the cusp among all time greats.

In my opinion, Cotto has no chance of beating Martinez unless Martinez is shot to pieces. If Martinez is non-shot, still has his legs, he'll beat Cotto's brains in.

He's daring to do what Floyd hasn't and that's face a top middleweight, even if Martinez is passed his best. Does that merit ATG status? I'm not so sure. Do we not all agree Cotto is a HOF?

HOF fore sure and a win over martinez would really cement his legacy.

ATG is a step far for me though, bandied about abit too often.

I like Cotto, but when I think about the great boxers I have seen, I don't think of Cotto. I do find him one of my favorite fighters of the past 15 years or so if that counts for anything....but not great.

I kind of view him as the next tier of border line greats very good quality fighters....perhaps alongside of the Hatton, Minter, Antuofermo, Briscoe type of guys.....

ATGs is guys like Mayweathef, Cotto is just a great fighter of this era but not in the all time elite. Id loved to have seen a pax cotto rematch to see if cotto could redeem himself against a pacman who is slowly slipping

I like Cotto. Definitely a fan. A win would do much for his legacy. The Middleweight Title is nothing to sneeze at when you started at 140.

If he Miguel does find a way to win I hope he retires and doesn`t do what I think he might do  just ride off in the Sunset.

I dont want to see him get hurt.
