I think its fairly clear that Rob McCracken is AJ's actual trainer and Tony Sims works with him when hes at the matchroom gym and on fight night, but does anyone else think he needs a new trainer to move forward and dominate the divison? Are both of his trainers actually capable/experienced enough of moulding the so say "future of the divison" Wouldnt it be better to get a more experienced trainer who has trained fighters at world level and beyond? I think he should change trainer now instead of waiting until he suffers a loss etc.
Rob McKracken trained Carl Froch, fair to say he won a few world titles during his time. Tony Sims helped get Darren Barker to a world title which considering the injuries he's had was an amazing achievement. Are you seriously suggesting neither of them have trained fighters at world level before?
Granted Rob McCracken had a lot of success with Froch but Froch was a fighter who got by on his natural attributes (granite chin, unreal conditioning) instead of nurtured technical boxing ability. I just feel AJ would need someone who can guide him whos a well accomplished trainer who can teach him alot of new things he will need to beat the different types of heavies out there.
Fair enough, not sure I agree on froch tho. I think his boxing ability is sometimes overlooked because of the wars he was in.
AJ's new trainer will be announced after the Rio Olympics as...Rob McCracken. if Rob gives up his GB Director role he will no longer have to pretend not to be AJ's trainer. But question is will they still have access to the state funded training facilities, physios, sports psychologists, S̶p̶e̶c̶i̶a̶l̶i̶s̶t̶ ̶d̶o̶c̶t̶o̶r̶s̶, nutritionists and psychologists? Agree that AJ needs a change, he's still too amateur in his approach and doesn't vary his punches enough.
froch didnt get by on chin and conditioning at all. Actually watch boxing instead of a boxers pecs. His technique was very very successful until groves 1 where he changed it for groves two. McCracken masterminded it
Aj needs to stop being so robotic and start mixing it up a bit, shots to the body would be a start, instead of the same ol one-two. I don't like wilder or haye at all but they both spark aj and fury out boxes him for fun Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AJ doesn't train in London. Rob McCracken's training of AJ is one of the most bizarre things I've seen, he stands next to him on fight night wearing a low cap to hide his face, does no interviews or press, and they don't show any corner instructions during AJs fights as its McCracken giving the instructions! All while pretending Sims is the trainer... All very odd.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, I'm just saying the way they're going about it is a bit weird. Plus there must be a reason that they're (Matchroom, Sky, AJ, Rob) going out of their way to keep it as quiet as possible. for the first year or so they didn't even publically acknowledge that AJ commutes up to Sheffield during camp for training. :think:think:think
Well McCracken isn't allowed to train pro fighters while he's head of Team GB, that is why they have kept it quiet. It was a daft rule they put in place a couple years ago.
AJ has confirmed that Angel Fernandez is going to be his chief trainer. Not the big shake up I was expecting. London based and part of his camp for the last 3 years as head pad man. Underwhelmed
