Does an undefeated record mean nothing? Losses are what make a true great, right?

I think Calz resume has a lot to be desired. Perfection doesn't really exist in nature and probably shouldn't in a boxing ring unless you're fighting subpar comp. My point, and a lot of other poster in this thread boils down to the quality of opposition tends to dictate your record, losing to a good opponent in this game shouldn't necessarily be considered a negative depending on who you lose to. If you test yourself often enough and against great enough quality you will at some point fail.

But do you see that it's because he fought good competition that his record has some L's on it? Nobody is saying that had he gone undefeated it wouldn't have been more impressive.

Real greats have losses because they actually challenged themselves and did not manuever in a manner where they protected their records !

Today's culture is all about that undefeated record .I say that 0 has to go !

Yeah I feel you. Sometimes though, losses can come from an off night or not preparing properly for a fight like against Kirkland Laing

Lewis avenged both is losses, but imagine if he beat McCall and Rahman the first time around and retired undefeated. Could you imagine how high he'd be held?

Not sure if the video is still on youtube but I think it was in this interview/video...

There was a sit-down interview with a lot of press gathered around Floyd leading up to the Gatti fight (I think)...and if I recall, he did say he couldn't make 130 anymore but could have milked 135.

    His goal was O$car.

Promoters don't do the boxers any favors by feeding them stiffs over and over again ..Look what happened to Rocky when he realized what he got him self into against Clubber Lang the 1st time around :D

Pac and Mayweather might surpass Robinson, they are on track to do it and depending on who they fight they can. Mayweather if he really does move up to 160 and beats Martinez in my opinion he will surpass Robinson because he would have done it in the toughest weightclasses in one of the stronger eras for those weight classes.

I'm not saying Robinson didn't beat his share of legends but he also had a padded record so his 100+ aren't all we should look at. We should look at how many ATGs he beat vs how many ATGs Floyd beat and the weight classes and their strength.

Floyd has a good chance of surpassing Sugar Ray Robinson if he can move up to 160 and clean house. If he beats guys like Martinez, Alvarez, Cotto, Chavez Jr, then even if you don't think he's #1 he should be in anyones top 5 list.

Floyd is challenging himself lately and hes undefeated. Give him some credit as hes taking on a tough fight with Cotto. I think Floyd is in a very good position if he fights who hes fighting with the style he has he very well could be champion at 154 and even 160 and retire undefeated.

He's the best right now I just don't want to compare him to the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard .. His 1 yr retirement also just never sat well with me ..But hey good for him ..

Say that to 06 Texas Longhorns, or better yet tell that to the last two seasons of the Boise State Broncos. They would love to hear that "hey guys, you were better from losing. Sure you never got to go to the title game because of it, but you're better for it". :nut

Losing means one thing, you lost. Now that can be against very good competition, but it still means you ****ing lost. You don't get brownie points for having a hard schedule and losing all of your fights, that just means you lost all of your fights. Is Rocky Juarez a GOAT, because he fought tough competition and got his ass kicked? What about Shannon Briggs? Does he get into the hall for getting his ass kicked by Lennox and Vitali?

floyd fans are harping on how floyd is so great that he has no loss but it also could mean that he didn't take on the necessary challenges that peple wants to see him with. he has so many names that he should have fought at the time.

no wrong with that but don't expect people to rank him as high as the other greats who fought the fights. floyd even mentioned it himself that he would not be forced to fight those fights that people wants since his health is more important.
