Well Ward and Martinez have both been dealing with longstanding hiatuses due to injuries, so I don't have a problem with both of them slipping down a bit on the P4P rankings, but i still think both should be considered in the top 4-7 range. I really like Rigo, but the P4P ranking is a combination of how good of a fighter the boxer currently is and them having a lengthy reign against top notch challengers. Rigo's biggest wins up to this point are against Donaire which is an excellent victory and Agbeko. I can't put Rigo any higher than 7-9. Wlad is also an interesting boxer. He has such a long, dominant run at the HW division, but unfortunately he's fighting in a period where the HW division is probably the weakest/most diluted its ever been. I'd still have him around 5 or 6. After Floyd, you can make a case for Bradley/Ward at the 2nd spot, Bradley/Ward at the 3rd spot, Pacman at 4, Wlad at 5, Maravilla at 6, Rigo at 7, JMM at 8, Danny or Mikey Garcia at 9, than a few guys could merit consideration for the 10th spot like Mikey/Danny Garcia, Froch, Donaire and Lara.
This sounds reasonable although I still can't put Bradley as #2. Number 3, maybe, but definitely not behind Mayweather at two, or above Ward. Rigo is my boy!I never miss seeing him fight, and eagerly await his next. Though he is my boy, based on his fights, I can't place him in the top 10.
So do you think Ward would of lost if he faced the Calazghe Kessler of just a few years earlier. The Kessler who had an injury and missed a lot of sparring?
I agree with you on Bradley's ranking. He does have a "win" over Pacman but anybody who actually watched that fight knew who won it. He had a great 2013 campaign though, so #3 on the P4P list seems about right. I guess even with Ward's inactivity, slotting him at # 2 is ok with me.
There's no version of Kessler that could beat Andre Ward. It's not like he was a world beater when he went into the ring against Calzaghe. Granted, Kessler was undefeated at that time, but the majority of the fighters on his resume were tomato cans. I think he took on Joe C right after beating Librado Andrade who is just a mediocre fighter at best. In fact, I'll go one step further and say Ward would beat Calzaghe as well at 168 lbs. Joe C never saw a fighter like Ward before, and I'd imagine he'd outbox him for the majority of that fight.
Floyd, Rigo , Ward, Wlad, Bradley is how I have top5. To me the order doesnt really matter, you could make a case for any of them depending on your perspective. Way I loosely measure p4p is division dominance, and none of the above have anyone in their division I would give better than 20% chance or so of upsetting, and somewhere around 20-25% is where I set the demarcation between "punchers chance" and "live underdog" The exception being Bradley who I would consider an "underdog" versus Floyd, hence hes in my top5 instead of Martinez who has faded due to health. Take the top fighters for a handful of other divisions, and make the bottom 10 p4p... whichever order you prefer. PAC not on my p4p list, I think Bradley fight was closer than some and then KO6. Manny needs to decisively beat Bradley for me to rate him again.
Unable to even jog due to knee. Which is sad, but father time conquers all. Before his knee injury I would have had no problem rating him#1 or #2 p4p because I think he would have beat FMJ at 154 or at least been an even matchup.
Havent said either way, but who knows how Kessler would have done if not rusty, suffering double vision and with undefeated fighters confidence. I wouldnt say ruined, but took his 0 and that undefeated fighters confidence
I had him #1 after the Froch fight, but since then legal issues have kept him from fighting a top level fighter. I gave him some credit for Dawson, but not much. Obviously Dawson was done. Ward is not a power puncher yet he KTFO Dawson (albeit drained). At any rate IMO he has slipped to the 5-10 range. Inactivity and beating the extremely one-dimensional Rodriguez just don't cut it.
