How? The leather Margarito took from Mosley before going down was outrageous.

Didn't Gavilan get dropped by lightweight Ike Williams??

To be fair, it was during the era of same day weigh-ins. And you would have to take into account Margarito´s fight night weights.
Margarito was a tall guy for 147, but he wasn´t ancestrally a big guy, at least not always. Against Williams, Margarito entered the ring at 157. But in the Cintron rematch he came in at 160. And he definitely got bigger over the years as against Manny he came in at 165lbs, despite the 150lb catchweight.

Margarito was a big guy whose chin benefited from have day before weigh-ins.

I agree wholeheartedly it's definitely different, just making an observation. Ike I think was only a lb over the LW limit. Gavilan wasn't exactly a big Welter either...not many were really - but had to beef up to get bigger paydays, IMO. SRR also started out as a JLW I believe.

Marcos Villasana is the alpha and the omega of chins.

    Hi Buddy.
He did, and Basilio had him on the canvas in the 2nd during their title fight in 53.
Have not read all the thread, has anybody flagged up Palomino ? rate his chin with the very best.
    stay safe amigo.

Graham only was dropped once, to a knee for a short count and was never stopped in over 100 fights.

Gavilan stayed up twice against SRR. Was never KO'd in over 150 fights. Only dropped twice, and wasn't seriously hurt either time.

Leonard stayed up against Hearns. Was only dropped once at WW, post initial retirement, when he was clowning around against Howard.

Provodnikov, Robinson, and possibly Maidana have better chins.

Probably. Getting knocked down doesn't really say anything about one's chin tbh. He never visibly looked hurt. He could take a beating like few could in the history of the sport. Pacquiao threw so many hard combinations at him and he would just eat it. Would have 100% gone the distance with peak Mosley, but thankfully the ref stopped the fight. Cotto never seemed to hurt him either. So yeah, he probably does have the best chin in the weight class as I'm having a hard time of thinking of guys who could take the beatings he could and just not look like it bothered them the way they never seemed to bother him.

Maidana? Khan had him hurt a few times and Ortiz had him ready to go.

    Too bad he sucks.

Amazing talent has gone through the WW division. Margarito's chin was solid and he took a lot of hellish shots. Rank em as you need...
