Pep beat Phill Terranova who has a decision win over Saddler also Paddy Demarco beat Saddler twice and Pep beat him by decision.

A case could be made for George Dixon based on longevity and dominance.

The fact that Pep's career outside of their fights easily exceeds Saddler's. Not to mention Pep took a win out of their series and generally outboxed him in 2 of the other 3 prior to being stopped (or stopping) late. And then there's the fact that Pep was past his prime and post-plane crash where he was supposed to have never fought again.

How does it work in Pep's favour that he fought journeyman for the remaining 15 years of his career

Not really, Saddler won a title in a second division and beat several fighters who went on to be champions up at lightweight. Pep was also stopped/KO'd a lot more times than Saddler was.

How is that an argument in Pep's favor? He quits in fights that he's winning?? Saddler never did that.

Whether he was "supposed" to have fought or not, he did fight and was fighting very well right up to and including when he met Saddler. He was rated just as highly as he was before the plane crash and was heavily favored to beat Saddler the first time.

Saddler was stopped all of once as a complete green novice, much like Harry Greb and Henry Armstrong were.

You can make the case for Sandy if you want ,but Pep was a little past his best, head to head it might allways have been the "preying mantis "that prevailed over Willie ,but overall resumes point towards Pep ,imo

That was someone else mate, you are probably thinking of Amsterdam.

Guzman has about 4 real fans who see he is the best thing in the sport right now.
