Marquez changed his style from a tactical textbook fighter to a more aggresive fighter (to sell him to HBO and make sure there would be no more close fights ala Chris John). His more aggresive style would play into the hands of a bigger Mayweather, who would counter him. People saying he's a counter puncher are wrong, he's completly changed his style now. About 10 fights ago his style would be harder for Mayweather to crack, but more boring.

At first when i heard about this I was disgusted but it is a win win for JMM. There is no way he can lose this fight even if he does lose.
If the fight gets made at 140 alot of factors could come into play and JMM would be able to have a chance. Also you can never count JMM out specially with Beristain in his corner.
I just wanna see PBF go into the corner and see if JMM can land his precision combinations on him. If there is anyone in boxing that can do that at the moment it is JMM. I have always also said that when PBF does that uppercuts is the way to break through taht defense. How many more guys throw uppercuts better than JMM??
I actually hope this fight gets made. Even if JMM does lose he will be set to retire as he is up in age.

Bingo. It doesn't even have to be a top-of-the-line welter, I understand he's coming back from a layoff. But for ****'s sake, FIGHT A WELTER!

I think it's a bit pointless. Floyd should win, but who cares. The bigger great fighter usually does beats the smaller great fighter. Most of the casual fans don't know who JMM even is actually, so it won't mean much to the general public, and JMM is fighting far above his best weight so it won't mean much to the boxing community either. A loss however is always, for some reason, a serious speed bump for any fighter to any fan. Floyd could lose to Joe Calzaghe at 168lbs and alot of people would drop him in the P4P rankings because of it. Boxing is very "what have you done for me lately" and you HAVE to keep winning to keep interest. So even a loss to Floyd, will not be good for JMM....especially with the momentum he has developed. Lose / Lose for everybody.

Does Mayweather intentionally pick opponents just to annoy people?
Maybe if this fight is at 140 I would begrudgingly accept it, but at 147 NO WAY!

It's a bad fight for boxing because it will draw alot of attention being that it's FMJ's comeback fight and it will not deliver in any way. A boring one sided fight is all that there is to expect, possibly with Floyd crying about it a few days later making boxing in general look worse then Arreolas belly makes it look.

I think Marquez can make this a good fight, not the blowout people are expecting. I reserve judgement until i see Marquez' training camp, but i do not think Floyd will destroy Marquez especially if the weight is in the low 140s. Actually I see Marquez as a live dog.

Is this fight official? and if yes then whats the weight?

If it is official then I can't wait for this fight. I can't believe people are unhappy

I think Mayweather vs Mosley would be a better fight... a win over Marquez which I believe he will accomplish, would not quiet critics... excuses such as he beat a smaller opponent would be heard... Mosley who defeated Margarito in great fashion way is more of a challenge... also a fight against cotto or if he really wants to quiet critics paul williams... but money and is more of a concern at this moment:D

The Mayweather fanboys keep insisting the matchup is a mismatch, that its a Mayweather tuneup......
.....but I have yet to see one of those clowns come out and say that they would like the fight to be at 140 lbs.

Every Mayweather fanboy is a afraid of one thing in a fight with JMM....that the fight take place at 140 lbs.:D:deal

Lastly, if Marquez-Mayweather does take place at 140 lbs......win lose or draw.....my feeling is that afterward there will be a forum full of Mayweather fanboys all full of excuses!

This forum and forums like this should be all in unison.....fighters, promoters, managers, etc......all know whats discussed in forums like this......we should demand that if JMM-Mayweather takes place, that the fight be fought at a fair weight.......

140 lbs and bring it on!!!!:yep:bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb

i think it could be competitive due to the skill of both fighters but i think it is too big of a mismatch to put a guy whose career was mostly 130 and under and a senior citizen for that weight against a guy 130 and over in the best years of his career. much better matches for both out there. money talks though and we are talking big money.
