I think winky got robbed from vargas and jermain and i had the hopkins fight VERY close. almost like a draw.

I do, i find it hard to believe so many people dont consider him a top 100 atg..

The guy would give anyone fits head to head, and his resume is even good if you dont count the times he got screwed over.. Also, no one really wanted him, which is why he didnt get all the fights he could have, and he still got quite a few good names, as well as wins..(or should have beens) One of the best technicians of our era, and jabs..

This is coming from a Mosley fan, but i give respect where its due..

I actually think that he is overrated. I think that he came up short in 2 really big fights and cried about it enough that people started beliving him. I thought the decisions in the Vargas and Taylor fights were right where they belonged. Hell he even has the nerve to ***** about the Vasquez decision where he was dropped 5 times.

I think what turned me off Wright the worse was when after the hopkins fight when asked what he wnated to do next he said "I want to fight Oscar, I want to fight the best". If he had said "i'd like a payday against Oscar" I probably would have respected that more.

Yes, and particularly recently, for the same reasons MagnificentMatt gave.

i think the vargas fight was def a robbery but come to expect that in boxing. he should have won the taylor fight but you've got to really beat a champ to take the belt. i think winky is definitely underrated but i think this time off is bad for him. i had the hopkins fight extremely close

How is he underated recenlty? Most people still have him top 10 p4p despite having a record of 1-1-1 in the past 2 years.

Winky was hugely underrated till the Trinidad fight.

Going into the Hopkins fight he was the most overrated fighter in the world perhaps? P4P number 4 then!

God, Calzaghe is going to smash Bernard "I can only edge Winky" Hopkins.

And a significant proportion of people on this forum go nuts about him still being in the top 10. It seems to be most people's first complaint about the p4p list.

Not that I'm saying he should necessarily still be on it, and I agree he needs to fight more, but I've noticed him getting a lot of hate here recently.

Damn, I get tired of seeing this. Not every close decision is a robbery. The Taylor-Wright fight could have went either way (I mean a draw or a victory for Wright) and so could the Vargas fight (as each fighter could have made a convincing case that they won). I had Wright 115-113 over Vargas, but it was in no way, shape, or form a robbery.

For the most part he was underrated. he has great defence, and does everything correctly, not a great puncher but everybody who shared a ring with him comments on how strong he is.

He was a massive light middle and was denied at shot a De La Hoya which was disgusting, Wright would have beaten him imo. Winky was the chairman of the 'Who needs him club' for years until Sugar Shane gave him a shot to unify the titles. When he beat Shane people started to care about him a bit more.

I cant see how anybody would chose Tito to beat him though? That was an easy night work for Wright, and he looked like a legit middleweight there.

i dont think the move to 170 has helped him this late on in his career, though im sure it dont his bank balance a lot of good.

i think Winky might be overrating himself a bit now though, rumouor has it he is turning title shots down against Kessler and Abraham, which is ridiculous at his age and ocming off a loss he should take whatever shot is given to him.

Maybe slightly underrated. I would love to show everyone of my boxers Winky's fights and tell them this is how you should fight with your hands up.
