I've flirted with MMA off and on since I watched the original UFC when I was a kid. I loved the idea of a real life version of Street Fighter II, but disappointed to see what martial arts experts looked like when in an actual fight. I've watched the sport evolve a bit since then, but it never really captured my full interest...until I watched a women's match. I was amazed that I found it had all of the passion, energy and excitement that I always found missing in men's matches. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with not appreciating all of the fine points of grappling that I miss when they transition to ground fighting, but there is a wild abandon that women exhibit that I just never seem to find in men. Is that something you frequently hear from casuals? Does anybody here feel this way? Is that degree of action the result of women's MMA being less evolved?
I find there is a John Wayne western saloon style brawl aspect to women's mma. Like those old westerns the women fighters often just plant their feet and repeatedly hit each other on the jaw. Women, like it or not, have 40 percent less upper body strength than men so have far less punching power. Thus, they can nail each other with shots repeatedly and still remain standing. This can make for a very fan friendly fight. Any male fighter who adopted such a reckless albeit exciting aggressive approach to striking would be knocked out very quickly by his male opponent. To be fair the woman's ground game rivals the men's grappling and can be very intriguing to watch. Ronda Rousey has taken women's grappling to a whole new level. Her Judo throws are awesome.
No, definitely not. They should add some mud to the floor and make them fight naked, then I'll watch.
