I respect Ruiz a lot. He notched wins over a lot of top level HW's....deserved decisions over Valuev too! He didn't have great speed, not a ton of power, not super slick, not the greatest chin yet he managed to become a 2 time HW champ of the world!! Just an all around tough guy. Boring to watch fosho but to accomplish what he did with the tools he had is ****ing amazing, dude was always a humble respectable guy as well. Ruiz is not THE worst heavy champ ever as proved by his deserved decisions over Valuev. In fact if prime Ruiz were around still he'd beat Povetkin! Hell it can be argued that a past it Ruiz deserved a decision vs prime Chagaev!
You're right RTB.Just a bit of fun on my part. Ruiz has achieved a helluva lot given his limited power. The guy had more staying power than many of the so-called contenders at HW nowadays. I'm sorry John.
No John Ruiz highlight video was ever completed because anyone who attempts to put together 1 always ends up falling asleep instead.
his longevity was shocking. He had a high ring IQ. I used to be a big Ruz hater but I've come to appreciate him. It ain't easy to win gun fights when you're packing a butterknife, takes a smart muther****er....that's Why I give props and respect to guys like Abril, Molina, Ruiz. If anything they should be congratulated for being able to beat people who's physical gifts completely trounce theirs. Successful glass jawed fighters get the same respect from me for beating those with better physical make up- it's crazy to compete in a sport where you get punched in the head knowing that any punch can put your lights out.
There's no doubt that King's antics got his foot in the door, but Ruiz had what? 9,10 years of being in and around the mix? It's his ring IQ that kept him there and you won't get many like him being around the top of their division the way John did. I like a joke but when all's said and done,The Quietman is well deserving of much respect.
ruiz went out on his shield...he didnt try none of that hugging ****....dude tried to win the fight respectably but was overwhelmed by haye's power and speed..which made for a quality entertaining fight
Quietman was a G. The definition of contender/gatekeeper. 39-1 against opposition ranked outside the top 10, 5-8-1 against the top 10 (with a couple decisions he should have gotten). Ruiz made the most out of his ability, trained hard, and did not duck anyone. I thought the way he went out against Haye was symbolic of his entire career. Always outgunned, outworked, outskilled, yet he came to fight and he fought till the end.
Man, I think everybody here would really love to see a Ruiz highlight video! You would be a god among men. Surely somebody with video skills would take on this challenge as a tribute to the hardest hugging man in boxing.
