Does anybody see HBO eventually forcing Ken Hershman to retire and maybe getting Stephen Espinoza or someone GB friendly to head their sports programming? Thoughts?

The problem is Thurman Broner and the such are signed to GBP... and under Al Haymon...

I like HBO's stand but I'm just not sure if its the smartest one... Pacquiao will still be able to sell fights probably better than any boxer not named Mayweather but how long does he really have? Or how long will he continue to want to fight? The same with marquez and Martinez who are not the youngest of fighters... I think with Ward or Bradley they are in decent shape but those guys aren't even exciting... (well I like watching Ward regardless).. don't get me wrong Bradley was exciting his last fight, which is fight of the year to me, but he def isn't viewed as a Pacman or Marquez.... So I'm seeing in the near future this swaying for Showtime and GBP.. in a year it could def sway towards HBo and TR..... but that is if HBo doesn't give under pressure to GBP..... but I feel that HBO has shown a loyalty to TR though.. they don't remember TR making the Pacman Mosley fight on Showtime??

Broner wont be fighting on HBO anymore
Thurman wont be fighting on HBO anymore
Wlad Klitschko? They stopped showing him for a reason, if he goes back on their network because they have voids to fill that's not some saving move
Pac? Has what... 3 fights left?
Martinez? is almost 40 and says he wants to retire after 2 more fights and wants out

Im sure HBO will find a way to make things work, they are the premier boxing network in the US... but really, nothing you listed points to HBO boxing being fine.

HBO should quit being a bunch of bitches and stop this nonsense. GBP was giving them Broner, Thurman, and a host of 140lb fights n fighters.

Just a ******ed move by HBO.

Hershman is setting HBO up to be able to broadcast the best fights available from a wide variety of promoters. Plus, he has taken them out of the bidding for GBP fights, neutralizing Oscar's power to get Showtime and HBO to bid against each other.

It might get rough for a little while, but Oscar needs a second viable option to raise the price of his product more than HBO needs Golden Boy right now.

You cant make the best fights available in some of the premier weightclasses without GBP

    135 : Broner : GBP
140 : Broner, Garcia, Khan, Matthysse, Alexander, Peterson
    147 : Mayweather, Broner, Malignaggi r
    154 : Canelo, Kirkland, Angulo, K9, Lara

HBO or anyone thinking they can do anything in those weightclasses without GBP are kidding themselves.

Heck no. Would be disasterous for HBO to hire some GBP schill to their sports programming.

It's not going to be easy to fill in a year or more of programming. But, between Top Rank, Dibella, Goosen, hell maybe even 50, they can get by for a while.

The key is what happens when Oscar thinks a fight is worth more than Showtime is willing to pay for it. Unless he makes nice with HBO he has no other option.

It's a game of chicken, but if Hershman wins HBO is in charge of boxing, not Oscar.

Ya it puts Oscar in a tough spot, pretty much going to have to take whatever Showtime gives them in terms of $$$

Still, the whole thing is stupid, and a Showtime/GBP vs HBO/Top Rank is stupid and bad for boxing.

HBO/GBP/Top Rank vs Showtime/GBP/Top rank is the type of competition that's needed, not networks aligning with promoters.

Hope they stop this ******ation soon.

Thurman is Golden Boy and Pacquiao and Martinez are at the ends of their career, clearly you are a Top Rank guy but don't act like Top Rank guys aren't protected Rios and Donaire rarely fight threats.

Di Bella, Shaw, Goosen, TR of course, will find it easier to sign top prospects with lots of premium dates. It's GBP that'll be squeezed for dates, and some of their guys will probably switch over.

If you are a talented boxer signing with Haymon makes you a guaranteed millionaire, the lower level guys can be on Fuel or ESPN.

when was the last time dibella or goosen put together a great show?

these promoters have way too much to lose so they play it safer than the likes of top rank and golden boy.

as long as showtime see a return on their investment golden boy will get bigger and better.

that may change, now that hbo is not bankrolling them. it's all on sho now. they have resources, but gbp/haymon have a lot of fighters to pay
