Does anyone actually believe that Arum does not pay off judges?

Hundreds of officials fingered in bribery scandal in European football. One of the biggest sports in the world...

They sure managed to keep that quiet?

    Just one aspect.

Iceman seems to think a bribe would have to be a balance transfer from Bob Arum's bank account straight into the judge's

All the big promotors pay the judges.

It's done by giving the judge huge "gifts" like gold watches and stuff like that. And you tell him: "You know, I really hope this fighter wins because I have a lot of money invested in him".

I know this from the Italian soccer scandal a few years ago, where referees testified in court about how the presidents of certain teams bribed them in that way.

it doesnt even have to be the promoters sometime the big drug dealers get in it and try to decide who wins the fight/soccer game/ football game ro whatever it is

In any competitive endeavor, there will always be the potential for foul-play and corruption.

    Boxing is no exemption.

Judges in most states are appointed by the commission but the promoter pays them. There is a subtle quid pro quo in effect for judges wanting to get the fights because promoters are certainly free to challenge judges. I'm not sure how much this happens. It is certainly possible that certain promoters have more influence over who gets assigned to what fights though.

The real possibility for corruption comes from casinos. They certainly have vested interests in who wins and a judge could find a stack of chips on his pillow. The promoter could of course be working with the casino. This would ultimately have an influence on judges when they worked outside the casinos also.

Not one word outside of casual conversation on who someone wants to see win need happen. In most cases not even that much need be said. The judge knows who the promoter's fighter is.

He has total control in many things, and I would not put it past him to pay off judges, referees, commisioners, etc. It is why this sport needs some type of federal body. Yeah it will cost a ton of money, but at least it will be from a 3rd party who does not care one way or the other. At least they can find out if a fighter loads his gloves (aka Margarito who was a top rank fighter). Its ****ing despicable that the sport is still crooked as **** after 100+ years. Bring the feds, let them do investigations, let mother****ers go to jail. Then these problems will go away.

No exemption sure, but this sport crooked as ****. You do not hear as much bull**** about any other sport as you do with boxing. Go ahead and argue that.

Yet it was Arum calling for a federal commission after the Pac/Bradley fight and asking for an investigation? Nice act. Sometimes things are exactly as they appear to be too. Boxing has a rich tradition of corruption though. I had a former world title holder tell me he was paid to 'put in rounds'. Even with a statue of limitations I won't say more.

Arun calling for a federal investigation

It's like the drug cheat calling for better testing. He says what he wants, ain't no federal investigation happening because Arum asked for it.

I'm not saying he fixed that fight inparticular, Butkus don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

no. the judges know which side of the bread their butter is on, no need for straight up bribery. why risk losing a money making empire with a bribe when there is no need to, crooked judges know what is expected of them.

Boxing is full of liars. But we know this. Take David Haye for instance. :D
