That's the whole point. How on earth can you dislike someow that much based on tv interviews and public persona when you have never met them and have no idea what they're like as a person. To the extent where you feel the need to instantly jump in and argue the opposite when someone says they're a generous bloke, usually in good fights, have a fit missus or even are wearing a nice jumper. Davis Beckham gets exactly the same as the best known footballer in Britain. For example when he reaches 100 caps it suddenly becomes a cause for outrage that they are handed out for friendlies etc these days. Yet it was never a problem whe any number of half decent journeymen were earning cheap caps.

At the most you would think ok maybe that person isn't exacltly my cup of tea. You wouldn't spend years of you life trying to convince the world that they were Satan. Unfortunately some people have these strange delusional hatreds. That is why I say that swollocks will never enter rehab voluntarily and only the mighty forum can help him get better.

Conteh got and still gets a lot of stick for his performance in the second Saad Muhammad fight which is up there with the worst performances by a Brit in a title fight. He fought like a drunk man that night and everybody knew why.

Benny Lynch, Randolph Turpin and Conteh are all remembered for the same thing: pissing their career up a wall.

Are are you disagreeing with any part of my post about Conteh getting grief about not being a good role model SB?

My point was that Conteh got up too all sorts, it clearly affected his career but he didn't have to put up with the Mary Whitehouse brigade telling him what a bad role model he was.

Conteh was that villified after that performance I would think he was called a poor role model in some quarters. He frustrated the hell out of a lot of people that night and was pretty much written off as a **** head after that.

I agree with you on Hatton being a role model, I don't think he ever tried to put out a whiter than white image like say Beckham. I just think Conteh maybe wasn't a great example because he took a lot of stick just like Hatton is.

I remember Conteh in the national papers and local rumours but I honestly don;t remember the role model card being played and if it was it was the jounos doing it, not the boxing fans.

    Long time ago though eh?

Hatton is exceedingly unlikely to ever box again, he's not a boxer any more, so I think most the Hatton stuff, the stuff we have been flooded with on here with lately, probably belongs in the Lounge.

I remember watching a program about him a few year ago and he was a big enough celebrity to be front page news if he went out on the town. I reckon he was pretty similar to Ricky in that everybody knew he liked a night out and also liked the ladies. From chatting to fellas that watched the Saad Muhammad fight live at the time they were really disappointed and Conteh was then written off as a drunk after that.

There's been a few sad cases but I reckon Hatton's family are a tight unit and will pull him through. Khan set himself up as a role model and the best of British so it's ironic some of his fans are having a go at Ricky who sold himself on drink pints of Guinness, playing darts and driving an Only Fools and Horses Van.

Was Conteh into drugs in his heyday? I know he was a heavy party animal and was a major womaniser.

To be fair even an idiotic 4 year old can get on your tits with his whinging if he's persistant enough.

Bettys the ESB version of that "I know a song that'll get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves....." song.

Wound up no. Disgusted, yes. I just fail to see how anyone can be such a scumbag as to dedicate his whole life to an attempted character assassaination of an honest and decent man who just wants to do the best he can at his chosen profession.
