Daniel Geale is the IBO Champ, yet nobody seems to care or acknowledge him as a champ. what does everyone think of the IBO Middleweight title?

My respect for you and the IBO as a sanctioning body are completely equal.

Both Calzaghe & Hatton held these "World Titles" and defended them. It didn't seem to do them any harm.

Geale is an awesome prospect for Aussie boxing and his win over Dawson was a great display and widely discussed from memory, but it was his first real step up to date.

Depending on your opinion of Dawson, it's hard to gauge where Geale is at, other than to say he's always looked a highly skilful fighter, constantly improving with an already established pedigree, and as a result of his IBO belt is ideally placed (5#)to step up to quality international opponents.

I'd hoped that Geale would have fought a little sooner than late June and tested himself further against the likes of Taylor, Crampton, Soliman and maybe even Pittman (beating all IMO) before taking on top 10/15 world ranked opposition.

To a degree the IBO belt means opportunity to Geale rather than accomplishment.

If anyone knew who his next opponent was then im sure he would be discussed further.

Thats what I think. The IBO belt is a starting point for him and will ensure he gets some good fights and makes a bit of a name for himself before really stepping up in class.

The point is though, that it IS NOT a genuinely recognised world title belt. Its not part of the WBA, WBC, IBF or WBO. Therefore, he isn't a recognised world champion. I would relate his achievement more so to capturing a WBC International title or something similar. A stepping stone, yes, but not a true title belt.

They have to fight an IBO top 50 ranked middleweight in his 1st defense, so it will be no mug.
The Grange team have offered the fight to an opponent that cannot be released yet.
    Shortly all will be revealed.

By the way i agree with Huricn, the IBO is far more important than the WBF.

Its more of a stepping stone for Geale onto bigger & better things.
