Its cool Goldie, but IBO isnt too bad imo. I think Geale know it isnt a true world title, but im sure he is still proud of it.

I agree, and so he should be. Its all in the eye of the beholder, even in big time international sport. Ricky Hatton, Wlad, Tarver and DOnaire all seem pretty happy to keep defending their IBO titles :D

Geale is using the IBO title as a launching pad to bigger & better things.
He has to start somewhere & i think his management is doing a terrific job at this stage.

While I agree with you in part, the theory doesn't really relate to this discussion, most of the guys in here, and im pretty certain Daniel Geale knows as well, that he still has walls to climb before being considered a world champ.

I would put to you, the majority of our fighters that have failed on the big stage have won regional titles before they fight Shane Mosley for the WBA or Roy Jones Jr for the ****ing lot of them or Sven Ottke for the IBF or Sturm for the WBA and I could go on, so my honest opinion is it had alot more to do with either, bad management, fighters not ready and fighters not good enough than anything else so the importance of the IBO title is not as significant as the opportunity that it provides for Geale's situation.

Geale has simply been given the chance (as Kegsy braught to my attention) to now fight a top 50 (IBO ranked) opponent. Surely this is a step in the right direction to fighting better quality opponents possibly in other countries, where he can grow his stature internationally as well as adapt to different conditions etc.

By the way I wrote that while my customer is filling in paperwork, she's 73! :tired

No way in my book is Geale a world champion by beating Dawson for the IBO belt. Dawson wouldn't be one of the top 30 middleweights in the world.

Seriously, does anyone here consider Isaac Hlatswayo (IBO Champion who recently beat Medley for the second time) a Welterweight World Champion.

    GIVE ME A BREAK.

Im not calling him a world champion by any means.
He is using this title as a stepping stone towards hopefully gaining a proper big 4 world title.

What do you consider Ricky Hatton when he wins the IBO title in his next fight?

Like all titles IMO the importance of the belt depends on the fighter.

No way is Dan a legit champ, he wouldnt even be a legit top tenner at 160.

Im not quite sure, at this stage of his career, why Geale would pay to be KTFO by Pavlik, Abraham, Sturm and Taylor and schooled by Wright and others. Simply put, he's not ready for what your suggesting he's not Jeff Fenech either that's for sure.
