Does anyone else feel like AJ is being severely underestimated?

Well, I do not agree. It does matters was opponent in prime or at least close to his prime or no.
I do know that 34-36 y.o Povetkin had beated up 38 y.o Pov cold, not alone 40 or now 41 y.o Povetkin version.
Klit too was over the hill when he turned approx 38 for sure.

The Pulev fights in their resumes looks differently: Wlad fought vs 33 y.o undefeated up coming Pulev and had been already considered as aging. There btw a lot of ppl considered that Pulev might won vs aging Wlad.
A.J fought 39 y.o Pulev who had been considered as total underdog before fight and delivered expected result.


I do not think that A.J and Fury fight might had been predicted based on their fight vs Wlad not only because they fought vs old Wlad.
Wlad's style was very specific and he fought not like Fury or A.J or Vitali.

He beat pulev every second of that fight, pulev threw like 3 punches

 

Of course, as I had predicted. I had posted that if he isn't bum then he will beat Pulev. There were also predictions in tapology com , Pulev was total underdog before fight.

 

Yes I think he is being underestimated by fans but not by Team Fury. I am predicting a close fight early with some real tension in the opening rounds. I could even see Fury getting rocked early but I expect Fury to take over by round 5 after splitting the first 4 rounds.

 

I don't see light hitting Fury stopping AJ. Probably a solid but not particularly wide decision.

 

I get so annoyed when people constantly bring up that AJ lost to Ruiz....

As if better fighters in the past haven't had a bad night? He lost due to a clash of styles and the wrong tactics.

Better fighters have lost to worse opponents.

 

It was quite a big moment though. It showed he's vulnerable, shows he can give up mentally (spitting out the gumshield). It is relevant to the discussion. Also fairly recent history.

You could say the same about people talking about Fury having an off-day and cut against Wallin.

 

I don't hold the Wallin fight against Fury other than the recognition that he doesn't turn up 100% to smaller fights.

I think AJ being vulnerable was evident before the Ruiz fight personally. AJ got his tactics wrong, he changed for the 2nd ruiz fight and I believe 100% that any future fight between Ruiz and AJ would be the same outcome as the 2nd fight.

Ruiz had little answer to AJ's jab in the 2nd fight and in the first fight AJ was controlling the fight until he exposed himself needlessly in the 3rd round.

I think AJ has come a long way since the first Ruiz fight. His Jab is a lot better, and his straight right hands have improved.

 

His problem also is that his so called by his fans marquee fights were vs old over the hill out of prime boxers in old aging Povetkin's version, old Wlad version ( pre retirement fight ) and now he had 39 y.o Pulev who had been Wobbled by 38 years 7 months old Wlad who then was not enough old.

Also this Parker fight too. Typical hometown ref.

Maybe he is very good, we do not know.

I think a big factor in Ruiz was that shot to the ear. It messed up his equilibrium completely. Obviously it's just a legit punch that caught him well, but given it hit the ear it had more of an effect than one to the jaw for example.

 

It was just 3 fights ago and I think was sticks with peoplw is the way Joshua kind of faded and kind of quit when things went bad.
