The guy won a vacant title at 130 defended it 3 times against shite opposition moved up to the more talent heavy 135. Fair enough move there I guess 130 does suck and he said he found it hard to make 130. Fight for a bs vacant title (Valero should never have vacated and only vacated for Top Rank conveniance) against an even more bs opponent (hand picked for Soto to win) and got offered the chance to fight for decent money on HBO but rejectes in favour of fighting on FSN for small money against a crap opponent because he is terrified of facing a real challenge. Now he wants to move up to 140 without achieving **** all at 135 when he surely doesn't struggle at the weight and if he does then why not make the jump from 135-140 after the Chavez or Diaz fight not as if he hadn't tried the weight yet. This is the sort of **** that fs up Boxing we need fighters to at least attempt to fight the best in their division, it makes a mockery of titles but much more importantly the sport. He is completely focused on becoming the first Mexican to win a world title in 4 divisions (a bit like Jorge Arce and I'm sure to be soon Fernando Montiel) but by doing this he is not fighting any top tier opposition and it is a joke. Thoughts?
Humberto Soto wants to move up into arguably the best division in Boxing and challenge himself? ...That ****ing ****!!!
:rofl Sorry I was just exagerating a bit to get attention. But seriously though there are loads of good fights at 135 and he has achieved nothing there or at 130 for that matter so why on earth move up to 140 where he would be very small and not actually have a chance of getting a big fight. All he has achieved is a win over Rocky Juarez (woopee) and he has picked up 2 vacant titles and he has done nothing at either weight why can't he just look to prove he is the no.1 at his weight before moving up I thought that was the whole point to prove you are the best. There are loads of great fights for him why not look to take on Anthony Peterson next he would get on HBO and it would be a career best win. If he beat him after that he could face the likes of Robert Guerrero, Juan Manuel Marquez, Michael Katsidis, Juan Diaz hell even John Murray (ok maybe not him). But he has taken the easy option since losing to Joan Guzman and hasn't really achieved anything and is whole focus is on becoming a 4 weight world champion and I think it would be a disgrace if he managed to achieve it when you had greats like Salvador Sanchez, Julio Cesar Chavez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Eric Morales that always thought the best in their division and only moved up when there was nothing left and the best fights where above them.
Oh yeah and another thing. That was my point does anyone really see him looking for a fight with Tim Bradley or Devon Alexander where he would lose and make little or no money.
Humberto Soto has never turned down a high profile fight from my recollection, royal. You have to understand that nobody wants to fight Humberto Soto...he isn't going to bring you a lot of money, and he's almost surely going to be landing hurtful punches on you. Soto deserves a ****ing pay day.
Another dumbass arm chair fan who just started watching boxing. Soto has fought some of the best guys at 130 lbs and is afraid of no man. If he wants to actually throw his hat into the ring in a loaded division i think that totally contradicts your BS thread. I'm sorry soto fukked your GF.
He was offered the Peterson fight who is his mandatory for the Foreman-Cotoo undercard on HBO and rejected saying he wanted to have a defense in Mexico, they said ok we will put it on the undercard of the next Gamboa fight but now he wants to move up to 140 and there was also strong talk of him facing Guerrero but he moved up as soon as the talk began, which btw was the only fight at 130 worth making and HBO defo would have picked it up. I'm not going to make out that I am exclusive to the talks because I obviously am not, I'm sure there is more to what is going on then what I am saying but there are decent fights available to him and Top Rank. You are right he won't bring a lot of money and he is a classy operator but I wish rather then jumping up to 140 for a fight with god knows who he would take a risk (not really in my books) and take on Anthony Peterson which is a fight that makes so much sense. He is only 28 even if he does have a mammoth record he still has a number of years left in him no need to rush why not stick around at 135 there are a number of opponents for him and I doubt they are all ducking him. And if he loses well he is exactly where he is now bar holding the title and if he wins he has a big win on HBO and would put himself in a position to claim a big fight with one of the big name 140lb ers or JMM.
OK my apologies but jesus christ mate I state a claim and you decide to try (and i highlight try) to insult me just because you disagree. A little lesson read the rest of the thread and my other posts and then reply, you will see I have reason behind my logic and if you disagree then more power to you but you don't need to decide to hearl childish insults at me just because I said Soto is moving through weight takin minimum risk fights to try and claim a hefty claim without really achieveing anything. Its not as if I made a stupendous claim like he is behind the New York bombings or is satins child no I simply said I dislike his career progression and the way he is trying to achieve his goal forget the title and first post. The title and first post (which I simply wanted to go a little bit OT over) to get attention because nothing on here gets attention beyond Pacquiao, Mayweather, blady blah got exposed, this guy has a **** chin I wanted a debate about his handling I don't actually hate the guy ok.
Soto isn't exactly a guy on anybody's must fight list, he doesn't bring much money to the table and the last thing someone wants is to get beat for peanuts.
Soto is a guy that is feared due to high risk low reward. I hate to say "he doesn't bring money to the table" type comment because I think that's a *****'s way of saying "This guy has a great chance to beat me, and I"m not going to get paid enough to lose". But, it's true in today's world of greed first, heart second. Going back to the question, do I hate Soto: No, he's a good fighter, throws alot of combonations, effective, has decent power, and is exciting (in my mind) to watch. The problem with soto is, he's to risky to fight and I believe the other 135's dont want a piece of him. I have no problem with Soto.
Soto fights about 5 times a year usually and although he does take tuners they arent exactly cans the guy he fought yesterday was 31-5 young and strong. Nobody is really asking to fight Soto but if they are im pretty sure hes not ducking them.
I'd agree with that just to reitarate I don't actually hate Soto. The thing that irritates me though is that HBO enquired about a Soto-Guerrero unification at 130 he moved up to 135 fair enough maybe he was struggling at the weight and it was a horrible division. He then fights for the vacant title against the guy ranked #8 (something like that) that had been horribly inactive and got a very nasty beating from Manny when there were much better and deserving opponents for him. He then gets offered a fight on the undercard of Foreman-Cotto against his mandatory challenger Peterson he rejects stating he wants to have a defense in Mexico before then, they say OK which they shouldn't (WBC) and HBO say they will put it on the undercard of Gamboa's next fight. Well now there is talk of him moving up to 140 my question is why? he doesn't struggle at the weight and he isn't going to get a fight against one of big names any time soon and he is in a division where there are loads of guys like him that are very talented and struggle to get opponents but due to their talent they would be accepted by HBO or Showtime. It's Peterson I feel sorry for not Soto his promotion has been non existant and come on it's clear Soto is ducking him Peterson has been the #1 challenger for like 1 year now.
