Does anyone else here think that Cotto is extremely overrated?

Martinez shot to absolute ****. If you think that guy had any legs at the opening bell you need your head examined or you have an agenda in making Cotto look good...

Margarito - His loss to Marg doesn't count for much in my book, niether does his win. When he lost to Marg, Margarito very well could have been cheating. But we will never know. However, his win doesn't count for much because Margarito's eye was already damaged and NYSAC almost didn't renew Margarito's license to box. The eye gave him problems and Margarito had to quit.

    Although:

Mosley - Quality win (not quite past it yet)
Judah - Quality win (not quite past it yet)
Clottey - Quality Opponent, although didn't beat him that convincingly though.
    Malinaggi - Quality win

    BUT...

as I pointed out, the latest of these wins go back to 2009! And some people don't even think he beat Clottey! I'm not really even a Cotto hater, this guy just isn't the cream of the crop and I'm surprised more people haven't wised up yet. You can't rate a guy highly based on what he did SEVEN years ago. Especially when he is 34 years old. Also Cotto takes more damage than some defensive fighters and he probably takes more damage in sparring over time. He is getting old.

    How can he be overrated?

If I were to place champions on a tiered system he would be a decent but not great title holder.

    examples:
    Tier 1
Mohamed Ali, Manny Pacquiao, Roberto Duran, Roy Jones Jr., Floyd Mayweather Jr., Ray Leonard, Ray Robinson, Pernell Whitaker, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Mike Tyson, Aaron Pryor, Henry Armstrong, Ricardo Lopez, Khaosai Galaxy, Julio Cesar Chavez, Willie Pep, etc.

    Tier 2
Juan Manuel Marquez, Marvin Hagler, Marco Antonio Barrera, Naseem Hamed, James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, Tommy Hearns, Oscar Delahoya, Erik Morales, Larry Holmes, Joe Calzaghe, Evander Holyfield, Azumah Nelson, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Andre Ward, Genary Golovkin, Hector Camacho, Nonito Donaire, Sandy Sadler, etc.

    Tier 3
Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Zab Judah, Arturo Gatti, Jose Luis Castillo, Jose Luis Ramirez, Tommy Morrison, James Douglas, Felix Trinidad, Vitali Klitschko, Chris John, Diego Corrales, James Tua, Amir Khan, etc.

    See Definitely not Overrated!

    Speed? He's average at best.

Plus lets break that list down:

Malignaggi stopped by Khan, Hatton, and Porter. Not an Iron chin
Mosley--Many people thought Cotto lost that fight and Mosley was 36.
Judah---He had to cheat with low blows to a past his best Judah.
Clottey---Cotto really lost this fight and he had to bodyslam him.
Martinez---39, bad knees, bad shoulder and hand.
Margarito---Shot and half blind, started to come on just before the ref stopped the fight.

He's a good fighter, but he is very overrated.

I see your point, but I am saying the general consensus on the forums about his current position in the division is wrong.

However, I have some problems with your tiers :deal

Gatti shouldn't be in Tier 3 even.

Rigo is too early to put in Tier 1.

Tyson should be in tier 2. He was a bum crusher. Never faced one of the best of his era (bowe). Lost to the great fighters of his era he did face (Lewis, Holyfield)

I wouldn't put hamed a whole level above the likes of Hatton. And hamed was not as good as MAB.

Cotto is overrated at 160 lbs., he beat a cripple. Martinez was shot, he will never fight again.................If Cotto fights Golovkin, then he will get knocked out cold. Cotto has been a good fighter in the past, at a lower weight, but at 160 he will not be the same. Don't forget, Pac knocked Cotto out, think what Golovkiin would do to him. I give Cotto zero chance vs. Golovkin, just hope he does not get seriously hurt...................

Golovkin Vs. Cotto would be a huge fight at MSG, huge, sold out. I think HBO wants that fight to happen....................

Dudes on this board are delusional. Reason I no longer post here unless I have to (like on this occasion).

Cotto gets hated like no other on this board and has been hated on like no tomorrow at the Scene since he completely destroyed Martinez of whom, everyone on this board and the Scene was saying that he was going to get KTFO by a 50% Sergio. lol!!

Like they say on the interweb...."haters are going to hate!"

Cotto gets hated on like no other? :rofl:rofl:rofl Guess you haven't seen all the Pac/Mayweather threads.

If anything, Cotto is disproportionately elevated relative to his skills.
