Does anyone else not have massive expectations for Groves?

I don't see anything special in him and he didn't look great at all against his opponent tonight.

He won't go far at all.

 

He does not fight anything like Haye. There is no comparison at all. He does not stand like Haye, he does not rely on single power shots, he goes to the body, works off a jab.

Awful comparison. I did not see this latest performance but I wont be worried by one bad night. He is a quality prospect and far more rounded than Degale.

 

But he works from combinations he is far more orthodox than Haye. Haye waits for an opening to throw a bomb. He has his lead hand down by his ****ing knee and often abandons what is a good jab to head hunt with lead rights.

As I said I have not seen this latest Groves fight, but so far I have been impressed.

 

I hate to say it but at least Degale seems to be improving, I didn't see that in Groves last night. It was only highlights but he looked pretty average (again!).

 

I do get worried he tries to fight with a style that does not suit him. Haye has reactions to avoid a lot of shots with left hand low, Groves doesn't.

 

Based from what iv seen he seems good enough and will likely reach beyond euro-level he's a better fighter then degale, he'll be a good world champion but nothing exceptional

 

I think the opponent was quite good, he came to fight.

These kind of fights are better than someone like Dilks, who's never beaten anybody of note.

 

groves wasnt great last night but the fight wasnt taken to seriously by the team.

 

Sky didn't have time to show his best round of the fight unfortunately, it wasn't his best performance by any means but it will be a decent learning experience for him fighting a tough Mexican in Vegas. The problem was that Groves took a few of his shots and knew from that moment he couldn't hurt him at all, so abandoned the jab and just threw power shots having no respect for the guy's power. This made him look a bit sloppy but, all in all, it wasn't too bad IMO.

I can see the comparisons with Haye in some ways though, keeping that left hand so low will always worry me against a decent opponent/puncher.

 

He didn`t look great last night but nerves probably played a part in that.He has only had a few fights and has a lot to learn.He needs to improve on the defence big time cos when he moves up a level guys will start catching him more and more.If he carries on with the style he has he will end up getting stopped before long.

 

theres other prospects in and around that weight that are much better then him.
David Lemieux took out the same fighter he fought last night in 2 rounds at 160 that should give you an indication and where he stands internationally. In UK it doesnt matter because most fighters here are mostly bums

 

Hardly suprising that he has some similarities to Haye really. Wouldn't overstate though.

I thought he was okay last night, has potential to go to Euro level - he'd beat Magee already I think.

Would like to see him, and every other British prospect show some boxing skills and versatility rather than ploughing forward against ovematched opposition looking to knock people out with every shot and then having no plan B or getting beaten up against better fighters.

 

that was lemieux's 19th fight and only groves 10th. tight-ass sky didnt show us the whole fight but some1 said he had a great 5th round and was taking his time and picking his shots which is good to see
