Does Anyone Else Really Dislike The Rocky Movies?!!

I'm sure I'm kicking a hornets nest here, but I wanted to ask the question.
I've been a boxing fan most of my life. I've watched several of the Rocky movies and... I just don't get it?!!
I understand the whole underdog, never give up thing. But I've always found the films, especially the first ones, rather dull and the main character not particularly interesting. In fairness, I thought films 3 and 4 were more enjoyable, where it all gets a bit sillier. And I've only seen one of the newer ones.
But it's always baffled me a little as to why it's so popular?!! I even remember reading interviews with fighters who were inspired to get into boxing after watching the film, which I find incredible (not knocking them. They're braver than I am. It just amazed me).
Anyone else feel vaguely the same?!! Unpopular opinion I'm sure.

Jus the opposite. I thought the first was a great film, the rest were garbage.

The first part won the Oscar for the best film if I remember correctly, and it is as realistic as possible.

If some journeyman trained like never before in his life just to last with the world champion until the end of the fight in the ring (not to win), and the world champion trained for the journeyman....

    Thaaaaaaank you.

I recently re-visited the original film, not having seen it in years but never having enjoyed it. Not much has changed. It is a colossal bore of a movie. Sue me.

Interestingly, I quite enjoy Rocky II. Then III & IV are where it gets insanely over the top - but I enjoy IV (which has the single best fight in the entire series - it’s spectacular). III is not good, the Clubber Lang character is so insanely overwrought (at one point he has to be dragged to his corner screaming like a caveman) & a total cartoon of a villain. V is a ****-show & all the newer ones I’ve never bothered to watch.

I still hate that first movie. Dull as dishwater with the only life coming from Carl Weathers.

I loved the first two Rocky films and thought that the third one was okay. I did n't like the direction that the franchise took in IV & V,but the sixth one ('Rocky Balboa') was a return to form in my opinion.

Quite liked the first two Adonis Creed spin offs but have yet to see the third one.

I can dig the older ones more than the autobiographical abominations like Ali and the Foreman movie, with Raging Bull as the exception

This would be close to my thoughts too. I grew up as a kid with the Rocky movies and loved 'em. I could follow people that weren't born or about for the earlier movies not getting it tho many should.

Movies get gradually better until 4. 5 is bad. 6 is the best movie but really isn't a traditonal Rocky Movie. I think Creed 2 is the best Creed.

I don't get the critics rating Rocky I the best and acting like all subsequent movies in the franchise were bad. The first Rocky wasn't terrible but Stallones inexperience directing showed. It has that feel that season 1s of TV shows tend to have when they didn't know what they wanted to do yet. Maybe they liked Rocky as an indie film concept but not as a franchise?

A few years ago they released the long cut for Rocky 4 and it made the movie quite a bit better if anyone wants to watch that.

Stallone didn't direct that one, John Avildsen did. Stallone wrote them all though.

Truthfully, I did not care much for the beginning of Rocky II, kind of boring, not until he is forced to fight a rematch with Apollo Creed., then the action began. I did not care for the fifth installment of the series, his kid gets jealous of Tommy Gunn and goes around being disrespectful to his Mom and Dad, and hanging around with losers, falling prey to peer pressure.

First one was great, second one was good but slow and third was overall good. After that it really went downhill IMO.
