I really dont like to use the term "overrated" in this forum, but does anyone else think galaxy is ranked too highly? Record no. of defenses for sure, but aside from that, his ledger is a bit poor for someone who some rank as one of the greatest asian fighters of all time. IMO, h2h wise he is'nt that great either.

Not really. I don't even hear people talking about him much unless it's in a negative context.

He was a good fighter but his HOF admission is pushing it IMO.

He hardly fought a top 10 fighter his whole career, he defended the same title, in the same division. Several very learned boxing historians I know have looked into his career and have convinced me that he does not deserve his spot in the HOF.

Off the top of my head Pical and a South American, whose name escapes me but did have a decent career, are the only fighters of note I can recall from his record.

Thats what i mean. The guy is ridiculously overrated. For his short career, Mijares has a better resume in comparison considering he's unified 2 titles.

Just because he fought in a territory (both geographically and weight wise) that few are cognizant of, does not mean he is over-rated. I definitely would rate Galaxy over Hearns, a guy who spent large parts of his career enhancing others'. Galaxy was a wrecking ball, fantastically superior to his contemporaries in terms of strength and power. It is like watch a man among boys, almost disturbing in the disparity. Polished? No. He did not need to be. He was so dominant in his aspects that none other really mattered.

Yeah but who did he fight??

All time P4P lists shouldnt be about h2h or good somebody looked. Its about achievement, what was done in said fighters career, how dominant they were, how long their dominance was for and who they fought to consolidate their position as one of the best fighers around.

If you know please educate me, I dont pretend to be an expert on the guy but I can not see how this guy deserves such high praise. Several guys I know who live and breath boxing history think his rating all time is just plain wrong and they seemed to have a lot of evidence to support this view.

    :rofl @ Galaxy above Hearns!

Based on what? Based on not fighting a single one of the other top 115 pounders in the division's golden era when most were fighting each other? Based on staying in his home country to feast on corpses? Based on looking mediocre on film aside from his power?

There is not a SINGLE argument you could put up that would rank Galaxy's overrated ass above Hearns. Hearns was far more proven against top opposition(or any kind of quality opposition whatsoever), is the much more accomplished fighter, and was far more skilled and effective on film.

Galaxy wouldn't even rate among the top 5 of all time at 115. He's a notch below the likes Watanabe, Moon, Konadu, Roman, Tapia, etc. Someone like Mijares would've schooled him also. Thread is correct, Galaxy is overrated, by people who don't know a damn thing about the lower weights but feel like giving his name a shout because they saw it on Ring's bogus list.

He did fight Pical and stopped him, that is worth some points.

And that South American I was thinking of was Conteras , a solid name no more.

But how could he even be considered an alltime superfly when you got names like Sugar Baby & Gilberto Roman basically doing exactly what he did, at the same time but with a different belt. How are those guys' achievements worth any less the Galaxy's?
If he had just fought one of those names it would mean the world of difference IMO, but he didnt. Regardless of the reasons behind it he never got in the ring with most of the top challengers and champs during his reign.

There was a Thai guy who was WBC fly champ througout the late 80's why not fight him?
Why not fight Epinosa who knocked out his twin brother? He had two years to fight him before he was dethroned.

You had guys like Raul Perez and Canizales only 3 pounds away also, why arent they ranked above Hearns and two spots under Michael Spinks? And Canizales would have traveled, that bloke defended his title in like 5 different countries.

No.....I wouldn't say he is overrated. If anything it appears that many people under rate him.

He was 115 lbs, had 20 title fights and KOed 17 of his opponents in those fights (85%). That KO percentage for 115 lbs is surreal.

The Ring magazine rates him as he should be rated.

By that logic Tyrone Brunson is heading for Henry Armstrong territory.

How does that justify him being ranked above a legend like Thomas Hearns just because he ko'ed a lot of people?
He was defending his title against guys with less than 15 fights at the start, in the middle and at the end of his reign. Guys who only probably got a shot because of Thailand's lax policies when it comes to combat sports.

Read Sweet Pea's post for a little enlightenment please.
