You could make that argument. Beltran definitely won the 1st round. The 2nd was closer because of damage Barry dealt out, but it's not like that round was one sided. Barry surged for maybe 1/3 of the round, while Beltran took the other 2/3 of the action. It depends on who you thought deserved that round more. Barry was seemingly closer to winning the fight, but was bullied around most of the 2nd round.
I gave the first round to Beltran (10-9) The second round to Barry (10-9) And the third round to Barry (10-8 ) On a side note, what did you guys think about Barry's TDD? Granted, he was fighting a journeyman level fighter in Beltran but regardless I think his time spent at Lesnar's camp was beneficial to him. P.S. Barry took a ridiculous amount of uppercuts to the face and seemed completely unfazed.
It was one of those fights where at the end of it you're like "that cannot be the winner." While I think he outstruck Barry in some points, the leg kicks clearly ****ed him up to no end and at the end he was finished, he was done. He couldn't stand up anymore. It wasn't a TKO or a KO (though it would've been another round later) but it was clear Barry had to be the winner. Some fights go past the rules of the point system. It wasn't even a draw, Barry ****ed him up. His defense was pretty shite though, and if he'd stopped with the ridiculous high kicks in the third round and ****ed up his front leg more (which was there for the taking) he'd have put the exclamation mark on the fight. I was just like "**** yeah, this dude" in his post fight interview. He's still got issues with respect, it seems.
I gave the 1st to Beltran and the next 2 rounds to Barry with the 3rd as a borderline 10-8 round. It wasn't tat close at all. Props to Beltran for the effort though, many fighters would've quit after those vicious leg kicks he was taking.
Agreed no way he won the fight but he won alot of fans thats for sure. Joey Beltran really is Mexican to the core he is one tough son of a *****.
:thumbsup I dont think Beltrans flurries did as much damage as Berrys leg kicks tbh, especially after the 1st round. Effective striking is the key word here, and although Beltran seem to throw more, Berrys did more
Beltran won if you think of the fight as a point scoring technical battle. As a fight, Barry won. Beltran did what he had to do to win. In boxing, what he did would have won. In MMA, it is still not accepting. Controlling, clinching and footstomping a guy is considered stalling. It was a close fight, I was intrigued by the cards.
