Of course its biased, all publications are because that's how business works, it doesn't mean they are right about their lists, it means they are trying to sell magazines. Easy to see.

I agree Bute hasnt fought the top guys yet but look at resumes overall

Bute beat Bika - better than Ward,
    Miranda - better than Ward,
    Andrade twice,
    Joppy,
Zuniga, better than Cloud and Cloud beating Zuniga has put him above Dawson
    Brinkley
Berrio - Holds a win over Steiglitz
Next Magee who is a European champ and world rated fighter who hasnt lost in 10 fights
    In world title fights.
You could also note Mock, Tatvosyan and Salem

    Ward has beaten
Kessler - A very good win better than any name on Bute resume but remember that Kessler was an unwell fighter
    Miranda
Green - who lost to Miranda
    Bika
Next Abraham on a winning run of 1 injury victory and then 2 losses the last being very decisive

    You could also note Buchanan

Now Wards victory over Kessler (even if he wasnt unwell) isnt better overall than Andrade, Berrio, Zuniga etc.
Remember that Cloud scoring a victory on points over Zuniga put him above Dawson in The Ring rankings.
Andrade was in the top 5 when Bute beat him and Bute beat Bika who you note years before Ward, so you could say Ward beat a post Bute Bika

I agree. I consider both Ward and Bute to be excellent fighters and worthy of top 10 P4P status based on their respective skill sets, yet Ward's resume is more noteworthy at this point.

Lets look at the bits you highlighted and see your answers
    The bits you highlighted

    1. Ward hasnt got as good an overall SMW resume as Bute.

    answer
Bute beat Bika - better than Ward,
    Miranda - better than Ward,
    Andrade twice,
    Joppy,
Zuniga, better than Cloud and Cloud beating Zuniga has put him above Dawson
    Brinkley

    You could also note Buchanan

Now Wards victory over Kessler (even if he wasnt unwell) isnt better overall than Andrade, Berrio, Zuniga etc.

    2. Kessler the best active SMW resume.

    Answer.
Tell me an active SMW with a better resume than Kessler?

Kessler has wins over undefeated now WBA regular champ Sartison
undefeated 2 time WBC champ Froch
    3 time WBC champ Beyer
    undefeated Andrade
    2 time WBA champ Mundine
    WBA champ Siaca
Not to forget Haussler, Lucas, Thobela

    3. V Klitschko is more deserving in the ratings in my opinion.

    answer.
This I noted was my opinion, but Vitali has beaten H Hide, T Hoffmann, K Johnson, D Williams, S Peter, JC Gomez, C Arreola, K Johnson, O Solis.
Now to me that is a better resume than Ward, but thats my opinion

    4. Z Erdei an undefeated 2 weight world champ with a better resume is not considered in the P4P ratings

    Answer
Zsolt Erdei is another who deserves more repsct and credit, hes an undefeated former 2 weight world champ that had a better LHW resume than Dawson who was a recent P4Per. Completely off subject but read below. You may see where I am coming from

    Erdei beat

Ring #2 LHW who had just contraversially beaten Michalczewski

    Erdei beat undefeated

twice who went on to become WBA champ and has a victory over current WBO LHW champ Braehmer

    Erdei beat

who has only lost to undefeated fighters and was scheduled for an int WBO LHW title shot, with the winner to be full champ if Braehmer is forced to vacate. Lakatos had to withdraw

    Erdei beat

the world rated former WBA LHW champ who had only lost once. A very good win.

    Erdei beat

    the European LHW champ

    Erdei beat

    .

Think Dawson hasnt beaten a fighter rated above #2 by the Ring as Hopkins hogged the #1 spot for ages, and Erdei has a win over a fighter that beat Johnson, who nearly beat Dawson and that was Dawsons big win.

good points about Erdei he gets no recognition

also Roy Jones was number 1 in WBO and could have challenged Erdei for a belt

if Erdei was a bum like many accuse him of why didnt Roy take the easy belt

Its obvious that Erdei is high risk low reward. Jones chose not to fight Erdei and remain a paper champ ie

At MW Jones won a vacant title against a then unknown unaccomplished fighter in Hopkins. Should Jones have been declared as the MW champ for this win or should that honour have gone to J Jackson who although also won a vacant title fought at a higher level and won his vacant title against a then higher rated more accomplished fighter in H Graham.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at MW?

At SMW Jones beat Toney who wasnt a great SMW and didnt have a very good SMW resume. N Benn and C Eubank were more accomplished champions who were fighting at a higher level.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at SMW?

At LHW it is without a doubt that Michalczewski was the man at LHW.
The Ring LHW title disappeared in the 80s and reappeared in the 90s where it just handed its belt to R Jones, but if the line of you have to beat the man to be the man had been followed, the belt should have been handed to Michalczewski for his victory over V Hill. Dariusz was the WBO LHW champ but he also won and vacated the IBF & WBA belts before Jones won them. Also Michalczewski beat Rocchigiani who was wrongly stripped of his WBC belt.
So Michalczewski had claim to every one of Jones belts and should have been Ring champ.
Michalczewski was the MAN at LHW.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at LHW?

At HW Jones beat Ruiz but I doubt anyone felt Jones was the man at HW with L Lewis as champ. Still same question to the fans. I remember a comment that Ruiz beat Holyfield who drew with Lewis.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at HW?

It does appear that Jones fought some good fighters but never against the top man of any division up to his fight with Ruiz and was only ever a paper champion in these divisions. Also Jones was fighting alot of gimmes and beaten fighters.

    Ward ain't number 9, he's number 10...

But i have to say, nice thread.. i don't necessarily agree with you but you made great points that I cannot deny.. n yes, i think Vitali is very deserving of the top ten.. I have Vitali at number 6 behind Pac, Martinez, Wlad, JMM, and Donaire...
