Here are the levels at Welterweight.

At the top: Georges St. Pierre

About two levels beneath him: Jon Fitch

About 1-3 levels (varying) beneath him: Everyone else.

Jake Shields is probably on the Jon Fitch level as well.

    Touche, sir. Touche.

But, I'd add a caveat: Fitch seems far more well rounded. Probably about equal, give or take, in the grappling world, but seems Fitch is a bit more skilled in all areas relative to Shields.

Jon Fitch is GSP, just not as good...if that makes sense.

Condit lacks the wrestling to make it competitive with Fitch

Welterweight is the one weightclass where the top three is pretty much unarguable.

    Pretty much.

At least 1 and 2 is pretty firm, but with the addition of Shields, it might mess up #3. We'll see, that'd be a good fight! Alves vs. Shields!

I think Condit vs Fitch would be a good fight yes .

But id prefer to see Condit vs Swick if im honest , 1) this would provide about as good a fight stylistically as any fight in the whole of MMA , 2) it would give Swick a good chance to get back on the WW scene as this would be as winnable a fight for Swick as it would be for Condit .

Also kicking around is Paulo Thiago , awkward , very skilled and dangerous as opponent you can find in the world and not to be taken lightly , if Condit goes in there and beats someone like Thiago , there can be no arguing he's ready for a title shot .

But overall i hear what your saying , instead of keeping Fitch inactive why not get him in there with condit to solidify either fighters claim to be the outright #1 contender , even though if Fitch consolidates that any more the UFC may have to give him a title just on merit

Maybe yes , but wasnt that the case made about GSP vs Hardy , Kos vs Daley etc etc , the UFC wont even look at that they will just make the fight happen , you never know Condit may catch Fitch early and that changes the dynamics of a fight completley , or Condit could put on a leg kick clinic and take Fitch's shooting ability away .

    You just never know

Fitch won't stand with him though, he'll just take him down and **** him against the cage like he does to everyone who isn't GSP.

Fitch Vs Koscheck is the fight that interests me the most.

I think it would be a good fight to watch. Fitch would be the favorite and I would probably pick him to win.

Stylistically though, it would be exciting I think, because Condit has a good active guard, and is obviously good on his feet. It would be non-stop action.
