Did someone say back Hopkins up? He loves that - all he'll do is counter punch all night. Hopkins has a serious shot at winning this fight. If Pavlik outworks him - then it's a different fight - like the Calzaghe fight. Anyone counting Hopkins out is crazy.
I dont see it happening because Pavlic is young and in good shape with good stamina. Calzaghe showed you dont have to even land alot on Hopkins to win, just stay active and win rounds. Hopkins was able to beat Winky who came in poor shape and didnt have the punch output and stamina he normally was known for. Granted Hopkins is good with southpaws but he also capitalized on Winkys poor shape. Same thing with Tarver. Tarver was sluggish and seemed to take him lightly. It was a great win for Hopkins jumping up those two weight classes, but as far as predicting the Pavlic-Hopkins fight, it shold be noted that Tarver was in poor shape and fresh off his Rocky 5 movie which he put on weight for. Hopkins was able to capitalize on out of shape Winky and Tarver. In the Calzaghe and Taylor fights, Hopkins showed superior skill and boxing ability but he was simply outworked and lossed rounds from not punching enough. Pavlic is going to be in good shape. He is going to have a high output. I dont think Hopkins will win this because of the above. I think he will take Pavlic a bit out of his element and pull out all the tricks and make it difficult, make Pavlic miss, land a few good shots, ect. But as the fight wears on Pavlic will accumulate more rounds and have the UD in the bag. I was really hoping for Hops-Roy II and Calzaghe-Pavlic as those matches simply would be more competitive and interesting.
Calzaghe did very well against Hopkins, better than I expected. He's the first guy since Roy Jones that gave B-Hop problems in the ring. Hopkins is simply the best, and in his prime (1997-2001), no one could touch him.
Doubting Bernard Hopkins is stupid. I cant believe some people here call themselves boxing fans then go out and doubt a fighter on Bernard Hopkins level agianst a fighter who fits perfectly into how Hopkins wants to fight.
Old Popkins will make life tough for Kelly, I envisage more of the same from the Calzaghe fight with lots of holding, hugging and leading with the head. Hopkins will make it a nasty nasty fight reducing Kellys punch output early on. If he is in the same shape as he was against Calzaghe I think he gives a Kelly a very hard fight and could frustrate a win out of him. Popkins is a crafty old so and so. I dont think Kelly has the smarts to beat Hopkins. If he can hold it together and tire Hopkins from rd 9 on like Calzaghe did then Kelly can stop Hopkins while Hopkins is looking to take another low blow break.
The Prophet predicts Hopkins will knock him out. I repeat, Hopkins will knock him out. Kelly is an excellent conventional fighter with good power, durability, and a suspect chin. Problem is, he's not going to do or offer anything that Hopkins hasn't seen or dealt with before. IMO, Hopkins will box his socks off. Kelly, IMO, has been overrated up to this point by virtue of wins over two very talented but fundamentally flawed fighters in EM and JT. He will not be able to take Bhop out of his comfort zone by backing him up or be able to land anything cleanly like he did against JT. People seem to forget that Taylor all but had Pavlik out in their first fight and that he can be hurt. If Hopkins lands a punch on Pavlik like he did against Calzaghe, which I think is more than likely, I think he'll finish it. Hopkins KO 4
Hopkins is the better boxer & will win on pts. The last 3rd of the fight might be extremely hard on him tho.
No, No I dont. Hopkins is too old. I am interested to see Pavliks performance. If he beats Hopkins thoroughly, it will lead to speculation about how he would have performed against a Prime Hopkins.
You need to go and get your propheting license renewed, because it expired. Much like what will happen to B-Hop!
I'm not sure how this one will but in Hopkins defense....Pavlik is stepping up 2 weight categories, yeah he's a naturally big guy, but he failed to stop Taylor in their rematch at a catch-weight. If he doesn't carry his power with him what has he got against Hopkins? Youth of course, but what else? Hopkins will be fired up for this one after his defeat to Calzaghe and he's the more natural at this weight with a tremendous chin and good power himself. Personally I can't see Pavlik stopping him
Yes,Pavlik's pop at 170 will be gone, probably so is the speed,Bernard will do his thing quit nice I reckon
Sure I expect Hopkins to win. Putting his age aside, he is a much better fighter than Pavlik. If he won't get tired late, he will win. The question is will he get the decision against HBO's darling.
