As a fight fan, I'd rather see B-Hop take down some more of top rated guys; but am I disappointed? No...I can't blame the guy for going for the big money fight. He's at a stage where he has nothing left to prove. Heck, he was at that stage years ago!
I'm pretty pumped or this fight, and the pre-fight promotion. With all the bad blood, we're in for a good show.
At Bernards age it's not about the belts anymore and this Jones fight is all personal TRUST ME! he just wants to Knock Roy the **** out .. And he will
Anyone that questions Hopkins as a 44 year old must have issues. You do realize that this is a guy way past his prime, old and is scaring young fighters away? Hopkins has done enough in the sport for a LONG time. The Calzaghe route?, when did Calzaghe fight 4 guys in a row as the underdog?, Hopkins was the underdog against Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe and Pavlik. Adamek is the one that turned it down and now announces that he plans to go to heavyweight. Adamek didn't want to take the risk claiming it's too risky for little money. As Hopkins said, who the **** knows Adamek ANYWAY?, Hopkins was giving him a chance to be recognized and offered him a career high payday. Do you know that it was Hopkins who called him out and was going to move to Cruiser to make it happen? In boxing you have to take risks like that to secure big fights for later. What does Hopkins gain from whopping his ass?, NOTHING. Chad Dawson is scheduled to fight Glen Johnson, if you don't know already and we don't know what will happen till that fight is over, for all I know Dawson could lose and your theory goes out the window.
It was predictable that BHOP will fight RJJ. I dont think that Adamek or Dawson may feel being ducked. Adamek decided to go to HW and is fighting on 24 October vs Golota. About Dawson - there was very low chance to that fight happen and everyone knew it.
Hopkins has nothing to prove. Why would any TRUE fight fan be disappointed in B-hop when he as given brillant performance after brilliant performs especially when nay-sayers says he's too old or finished? This fight is personal and he'd make a hell of a lot more on a RJJ fight especially if Jones gets by Green. I'm all for it. These two have been going at it for years so let them get it on in the ring.
Im fine with this fight, and actually a bit excited for it. My only little qualm with this fight is, they are probably going to hype the **** out of it, and i actually think it will garner some attention given the two guys personalities and such, but then when it comes to fight night... it might be a bad clash of styles at this particular time in their careers, with both guys perhaps prefering an opponent to try and walk them down. I can see a lot of waiting in this fight.... which would not be good publicity for boxing. But oh well.... personally i like chess matches. Ill be rooting for BHOP.
I got no beef with Bernard for taking this fight. At damn near 44 years old I don't expect him to be taking on all the young tough guys in the division. It's not like he's holding the title hostage or anything like that. He's just trying to make some money. I am already crining at the Bernard nuthuggery that will take place if he wins though as if the victory will somehow have any meaning whatsoever. Prime for Prime Roy beats him 10 times out of 10. The same guys that don't want to give Calzage credit for beating Roy will swing from Bernards sack like acrobatic crabs if he wins.
It's not my favorite possible fight for Hops, but I can't possibly be disappointed in him. He can have his sendoff fight against any fighter he chooses to. He's earned that right. That said, the pre-fight stuff will probably be more entertaining than the fight itself.
Is the fight going to be at cruiser, because if it is Bernard still has a chance to be a 3 division champion. Anyway it's an interesting fight, I hope Roy wins and they both retire.
