Last 3 rounds were close. I do feel that some people may be looking for reasons to give a fighter a round, or be swayed by the fact that GGG had won pretty much all the previous few rounds and Canelo did better in the 10th by comparison. But I tried not to think that way, and still I scored the 10th to Canelo. I don't really have a problem with the judges giving the last 3 rounds to Canelo, as they all were close rounds. To paraphase Manny Steward, the fight was going as I had expected, with GGG having a slow start and then gradually taking control and using his punishing jab. But I also expected GGG to land more body shots and he neglected the body. GGG's finish was disappointing, I expected him to close the show in the 10th or 11th, or at least score a knockdown or big round, but he looked very sloppy against a tired Canelo who was very much on the retreat. I still had Golovkin winning regardless.
I don't buy this and here is why. In the Canelo fight, GGG was getting hit with clean counters and pot shots anyway because of Canelo's speed. Nothing really seemed to slow GGG down or hurt him at all. In his shoes you think he might as well throw to the body and slow down the mover (if not knock him out) if you are going to get hit flush once in awhile anyway. Second, I think we can all agree Lemiux (and probably Steven) are much harder punchers than Canelo. Far more dangerous to leave yourself open to them and GGG used plenty of body shots in those fights. With Jacobs I felt maybe he didn't go to the body as much because Jacobs was moving very well and fought on the outside and only came in close while he was throwing combinations. But during this fight with Canelo, he had him against the ropes many many times and never used a body attack. Whatever the reason, this was the biggest issue I had with GGG's strategy last weekend. If he can fix that, it would be an easier night in a rematch.
Maybe because... ..there's a giant dildo called scorecards they're waiting to shove deep into your lovehole if you give them the occasion ? How's that for a reason?
I see your point and you are right... I'm thinking maybe he wanted a KO reel headshot punch but never achieved it. If GGG goes to the body in the rematch... Canelo will not last...
Nah, GGG was just head-hunting, a flaw of his in recent fights. If he did agree to a shady deal like that he's a fraud and an idiot and deserves whatever he gets.
Because who's going to fill up all these stadiums after you break 3 ribs to the Mexican Grand Campeon ? Are you feeling alright today ? Get a grip man.
He completely neglected the body and it cost him a clear stamp on some of the middle rounds and a potential late rally. It was baffling how often he let Canelo off the hook on the ropes and didn't feint low or throw combinations, always looking for that big shot.
So you want GGG to risk getting laid out cold, because of potential wrongdoings with the scorecards? That's a bit silly to go about it that way. Why not just win the fight as normal as he did and than have the majority of people who watched it think you won, except for the corrupt judges. Kovalev went for the knockout in the 2nd fight with Ward, you don't change your gameplan because of crappy officials, you stick to your gameplan, win the bout and win the people's votes. That's what GGG did. The record books will forever have it as a draw, but just like Holyfield LL 1 and Sweatpea vs Sr the boxing fans even generations from now will know what happened. Also, now that Bob and Kane have come out and said they made a mistake, this fight should be declared a no contest. But because both are paid off, it will still stand to protect their brand they were trying to save.
If you think my input here is "crap", by all means ignore me. GGG never lost many fights in the amateurs because he adapts to who he is facing and beats them accordingly, without risking getting knocked the hell out. Its not rocket science.
