Does anyone find it strange that Johnny Nelson's nickname was "the Entertainer"?

    Talk about an overstatement.

What other wildly inaccurate fighter's nicknames are there - either ones that are laughably self-aggrandising or just not doing what it says on the tin?

Or ones where people lived up to their nicknames? I always thought Holyfield's perfectly summed him up - The Real Deal.

I would call it the height of irony!
He was in two of the most god awful boring fights I ever saw.

As mcvey mentions, it was meant to be ironic.

It was in the same vein of when boring, snooker winning machine Steve Davis was dubbed Steve 'Interesting' Davis by 80s satire Spitting Image, the nickname stuck.

It actually made sense. He got the nickname at school, because he use to bomb (run) around.

Not just two-all of them. Which two are you talking about?

They had a lot of funny nicknames in that stable. A black boxer fought under the name of Slugger O´Toole, and he was certainly not irish.

I agree, huge understatement, what is the point of stating something so blindingly obviously? Never failed to impress

I heard this story but must confess I always took it with a pinch of salt. It only really came to light after we'd had the chance to watch him on TV a few times.

The Carlos DeLeon fight was possibly the worst I've seen.
