The more i think about this fight the more im thinking why ???????

Frankie is good yes but come on , do we really need to sit through another stand up clinic & late submission from Penn to know he's too good for the 155lb division ????

    Thoughts .

No one stands a chance vs Penn at 155. Penn needs to move back to 170.

Anything is possible in MMA. I hope BJ doesn't take Edgar for granted. That said, BJ is a clear clear favorite and it would be one of the biggest upsets in MMA history if Edgar won.

Nope. Like Edgar he works hard, has collected a good resume and is very well rounded. That said he doesnt do any 1 thing on BJs level. How do you beat BJ at Lightweight ? His cardio at 55 is amazing, he dont cut or swell much so there goes that fluke injury, cant possibly be took down, is rarely hit and when he is it has no effect on him, his BJJ is to great so you cant submitt him hell if you get him down how is a Lightweight passing his guard ? IMO Kenny Florian is clearly the UFCs secound best Lightweight and he is so far behind BJ. When BJ actually got serious in that fight what happened ? He picked of Ken threw him down, passed easily to mount, pounded him, took his back, pounded more and choked him out brutally.

Not really unless bj underestimate him. I just dont see edgar has any advantage over bj. He is not big enough to bully bj like gsp did. His bjj and striking is ok but bj is better. I see bj winning this fight via rear naked choke.

Let him have Nate Diaz next... just to see what Nate has to say AFTER the fight.

BJ Penn is one of my favorite fighters. I still would be unable to pick against him at 155. Penn is what Florian and the Diaz brothers wish they could be.

I don't want to say a fighter has no chance. Edgar's only chance is to find a way to nullify Penn's jab, and somehow disrupt Penn's timing while trying to move around and out punch Penn. Then Edgar would have to rely upon his wrestling skills, and defend the take down if Penn were to try to go to the ground if he feels that he is losing the fight standing.

I don't believe that Edgar will be successful. I think Edgar is a little small, even for 155. I think Penn's jab is too good for Edgar overcome standing, and Penn will submit him on the ground. Tough fight for Edgar, but a quality win for Penn if successful.

    Nope.

However, I disagree about Penn moving to 170. I think it's time for the UFC to bring in the 145 lb class. BJ could drop down, rather than up, and fight Aldo. I just don't think that BJ Penn is big enough to be able to train his ass off, and weigh 170 lbs. So, what we end up with is a BJ Penn who isn't in great shape, gasses out... and doesn't carry all of his ability up with him. I think that BJ could make 145 without a problem. At least it would be something new. I know that it's getting old watching BJ easily beat all of his opponents, but it isn't his fault. The same thing is going on with the Champs at 170, and 185. I definitely think that GSP should be moving up and fighting at 185. With his size and as much weight as he cuts... there is no reason why he can't be fighting at a weight that is even more natural for him. GSP vs Silva needs to happen.

BJ will leapfrog GSP and probably Silva in the p4p mythology after the devastation of Edgar.

In my honest opinion, Edgar is a more proven and worthy opponent at 155 for Penn than Hardy was for GSP. Edgar is just better fighter than Hardy simple as that.

Now watch what BJ does to Edgar.

I agree on the Aldo shout , but i think Aldo should move up to 55 and fight Penn , thats generally what happens if a fighter is coming up he should meat the champions weight class requirements .

However i disagree on Penn moving to 170 , i think thats all thats left for Penn , he's cleaned out 55 and now he should focus on 70 , that said i dont think BJ is effective enough at any weight above 160 - 4 , he just looks slow sluggish , lacks snap in the shots , no explosive strength etc etc , i think Penn must weigh no more than 165 on the night to be effective @70 , which brings into the equation the size issue , is BJ too small for 70 ????

With the size of these guys @70 you'd have to suggest yes , but we know he has freakish strength and balance and you'd have to think he'd have a speed advantage over these guys on the feet , imo the area he would struggle is completing takedowns , could you imagine Penn trying to take down Almeida , Alves , Koschek , Fitch etc etc note how i didnt mention GSP ................ not even worth a thought .

Its all trial and error , Penn is my favourite fighter in MMA and im not sure id want to see him go up to 70 and get swallowed up by bigger men , but then again whats left for him @55 !!!!! ????

I gave Ken-Flo a much better chance. I do think Edgar is a tad above Sanchez though. But really he has no chance at all there is nothing in Franks skillset that Penn cant do much better. Penn will decide everything in this fight from where it takes place (feet or ground) to how it is finished.
