People were giving Thompson chances too. So many thought Barney Rubble could defeat Wlad. Povetkin is probably a better opponent but I can't see him beating Wlad.

He doesn't need more fights, he needs more size and power.

Toney hasn't done anything to get a shot. Just an easy win that does nothing for Wladimir, there are better fights than Toney to make out there and Wladimir is smart enough to look into them, Toney can talk trash at the buffet all he wants, only his fans will take him seriously.

If he's picking Klitschko then bet the family and house on Povetkin.

Only his detractors would dismiss the seriousness of the Toney threat...defeating World Champion Ruiz...going toe to toe over 24 rounds with current WBC Champion Sam Peter...the only HW to defeat him...his somewhat tainted destruction of former champ Rahman.

Just hope fighters like the KLIT's keep away from the always game Lights Out Toney..

I like James Toney, but some styles of size just don't bode well for some. I think Wlad is just too big, and don't forget Steward. He has that Giant versus smaller fighter thing under control. What is Steward's record using Giants against smaller fighters? I can't remember, but I don't want to see Toney lose that way to the Klitschko brothers. But, Toney does deserve a good payday, he deserves it.

u should be really worried, he's gonna pick povetkin. atlas wouldn't care if the opponent was a one-armed midget. listen to his reasoning...it's so ****ing stupid..."oh take wlad into deep waters and he will fall apart" same **** different day....come up with something else. thompson had 0 big fight experience and had never been tested. zipperface is an idiot.

povetkin is gonna get the beating of his life just like peter because of his defensive liabilities. wlad is too smart and experienced not to capitalize. i still can't figure how a supposed wlad fan can favor povetkin. wlad will neutralize that workrate with his foot movement, clinching, length, and jab.

He has done everything required of him up to this point. You can't say he has been cherry picking opponents, or taking the high road, Povetkin is ready as he is going to ever be and I say he may give a great account of himself. Wlad can gave horrendous off days and if he does against a man with Alex's ability and determination, he may get the wrath of the young prospect.. Don't count Povetkin out...............

that's very debatable. offensively, i tend to agree. Povetkin has fast hands and is very effective when he gets in close. He has excellent combinations. However, he doens't have "heavy hands". I don't see that natural power or snap. Doesn't close distance to well. The guy has a non-stop motor too so that will be Wlad's biggest challenge.

However, his defensive liabilities make him a somewhat incomplete fighter especially against a very skilled big man with a killer jab. I expect the first 6 rounds to be competitive but Wlad's power and size, especially in the clinch, will take its toll. The strength disparity, imo, will be vast from the outset. Sasha is gonna have issues in the clinches. Povetkin starts eating massive right crosses and it's all downhill from there.

We all know Povetkin is taking about 10 steps up in competition so there is no debate there. Chambers was the only "live" opponent of Povetkin's pro career.

so not only r u a klitschko 'hater' but i find out ur a Neocon too. this means war :fire

:yikes horrendous showings? what about his 51 wins with 45kos. 12-2 , 10kos in title fights?

Did the klitschkos beat up Friday in sparring or something? u seem to have issues with them? ur a good poster but it seems like ur hoping wlad gets knocked off.

As for as povetkin being ready. he could stand to tighten things up defensively a little more before facing wlad by utilizing head movement and more side-to-side foot movement.

anybody know Friday's full name? anybody know Friday's full name? :yep

I think Atlas will finally go with Klitschko on this one. We'll see, but I have a feeling Atlas will say it's too early for Povetkin and he's too small.

As for Povetkin having a "shot".. he has more than a shot. It should be pretty easy to see why Povetkin is more than capable of giving Wlad the toughest fight since he became a titlist again.
