he was unique because he fought well at 147, but at 140 his left hook was paralyzing and at 147 it was good but not near as great. Hearns found a similar problem moving up to middlweight and light heavyweight. Punches which stopped guys at 147 and 154 didn't do the same thing.

Yeah they were bigger, and to think Oscar fought all the way up to 160 and in my mind gave Bernard a better fight than Tito did since he did win some of the rounds, although a different style. Tito held the weight better but was slower, and Oscar was faster so he could win some rounds with Bernard slowly landing some big punches and coming to the body.

Who besides Mayweather was faster than De la Hoya!?

De La Hoya was great at beating up Mexicans and the getting beat by black fighters. To bad he never faced Vernon Forrest or he never had to fight guys like Tommy Hearns or Julian Jackson.

Didnt delopv a right hand till late in his career, had the tendency to switch off for parts of fights. Fairly stiff to, didnt have great upper body movement.

Can't criticize the guy for his level of competition, he fought everyone he should of and much more. If every fighter was like him boxing would be all the better for it.
