Its the full fight. Its dirty with Fullmer being the chief offender (I hate Fullmer and consider him one of the dirtiest fighters Ive ever seen) and Joey getting frustrated and dishing it out. Once they are warned after Joe headbutts him it settles into a pretty repetetive pattern. Fullmer knew he couldnt win by fighting within the rules so he simply rushes in round after round and grapples Giardello. Its a very John Ruizesque fight. Ugly and hard to watch. Whenever Fullmer isnt basically trying to maul and hold on for the ref to part them Giardello is the one landing the clean scoring punches. It should have been Giardello's fight by UD or DQ but they werent going to let Fullmer lose out west.
Thanks for the reprise, this jives with what Giardello said in ,"In This Corner", Fullmer of course had a different version,Fullmer has a dry sense of humour when interviewed , and is obviously no thug ,he just fought like one. I am a fan of Giardello, but decidedly not Fullmer .
Fullmer was a guy who wanted to win and didnt care how he did it whether he bent or broke the rules inside or outside the ring. Ive always found this very strange because supposedly he is a very devout mormon (although we could go round and round about what exactly that means) and a pretty decent guy. I supposed many times in a competetive person the urge to win is a driving force in your life and far outweighs any other influences.
