It almost feels like every fighter has a belt of some kind if they don't have the main ones (Wba, wbo, wbc, ibf). like the emeritus belt, super champion belt, interim belt, intercontinental, silver, north american, oceanic, asian, etc.

hell, even paulie malignaggi won a belt called the brooklyn belt from his last fight. like seriously, there's way too many belts in boxing. they're given out like candy.

also, after watching the brand/ward fight, andre ward was wearing a belt of some kind after the fight was over lol...

Everybody thinks that... and too many weightclasses.
10 weightclasses and one belt would make boxing infinitely better.

    We need MORE belts!

Then everybody could be a winner.

It's this whole fascist lean the world has, that insists on "winners" and "losers". They ought to announce the outcome of a boxing match as "they're both winners, but "X" won more." You know it makes sense.

In an ideal world yes, but I think boxing would become more corrupt with one world title per weight class.

The Golovkin's and Kovalev's of this world would still be fighting in their hometowns behind closed doors had they not made their way up sanctioning body rankings, and if there was 1 world title per weight class, it would likely be contested between whichever Americans HBO and Showtime wanted to push down our throats (i.e. the likes of Broner)- and that would happen if boxing is a business and needs money to prosper or boxing ends up not on TV at all (and if boxing wasn't on TV it would lead to less people wanting to participate in it and gym closing etc)

    Way too many belts.
I feel like belts and champions are created not earned these days.

    Far too many.

It actually denigrates boxers like Kovalev and Golovkin.

We find people, media, fans, promoters all pretending they're champions. And because this pretense they get a false sense of worth.

This puts up barriers between these two and the actual world championship.

I am fairly certain if no one recognised any of his paper belts and everyone referred to him as a contender, Golovkin would have bent over backwards to make the fight with Canelo.

I bet Kovalev wouldn't be operating on a different network to Stevenson as well.

Sure the champions are being little divas, but that's what champions do.

The problem today is these fake belts enable the contenders to be divas as well.

Way too many. I wish there was only one champion. I don't care how many regional belts there are.

Can it happen? YES. Just order a tournament to create one champion and increase the sanctioning fees by 2000% more, and evenly divide them among the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO.

1 belt per divison and possibility less divisions would improve the sport a lot. It is a shame there isn't 1 world wide governing body like most other international sports, it cause so much bull**** and devalues what a boxing champion is ( C.Martin was a HW champ ffs)
