I guess Roy literally knocked him senseless. I think it was the chicken move.

I think they were going to promote it as the/a 'battle of the hood',and they started the trash talk.
After it fell through,Toney did say Hops was 'old school' like himself when discussing another fight. He was complimentary.

Toney has some respect for Hopkins. He was often rooting for Hopkins to win in the past favoured hom to win when asked in his last fights.

However, Toney also quite and arrogant and selfconfident person. He sees himself as the only true old school fighter in the sport and has oftemtimes disrespect Bernard in that regard. In general, I think he has more respect for Hopkins than for Jones.

How do you know that James was rooting for him to win in the past? I would be very happy if this was true, I'd like to know where you read/saw/heard this.

  5. I get the impression that they don't like each other very much:-( i would take Bernards career over Toney's though, at least you can understand Hops when he talks, but he's gonna get an ass whuppin by another white boy< PAVLIK..:deal

Toney talked some trash but I think he respects Jones and is cool with him. I saw him touch gloves (hands) with Roy before a fight where Roy was ringside as a commentator, don't remember what fight it was tho... maybe Ruiz?

I can understand Toney when he talks, and I'm from Scotland. If you can't understand him I think that says more about you than him.

Toney's speech has somewhat deterioated over the years in particular the past 4 years. His skills are still intact though, so I can understand why he continues his quest for a heavyweight title.

He has great defense and been in the game since 20 years but showing up out of shape against top ranked heavyweight puncher's did not do his health any good. I am pretty happy that he took training again more serously for his last fight against Rahman and as a result he took very few punishment.

I heard Bernard predicting Toney to win against Jones after the Hopkins-Jones fight if that is worth for something. Anyway, it doesn't take a genius to imagine in whom was Hopkins thinking when he wanted to move up and fight Maskaev.

  12. I agree Toney's speech was coherent in the 90's but he really started sluuring bad after the Jirov fight, now he talks like his mouth is full of mashed potatos..

I remember one interview of Toney in the past. When asked about Bernard he said 'dat mufuka dont do nutin but throw straight rights', something like that.
