Tate's career was perfect until he fought Nunn. He was technically very sound but Nunn and Virgil Hill were just a "bit better"
He was a pretty good fighter actually. Most of the fights that I've seen him in were losses though. I remember him being outboxed by a middleweight who most probably don't remember by the name of Lindell Holmes ( no relation to Larry .) I think I also may have seen his fight with Virgil Hill at lightheavyweight.
Tate was the 1983 National Golden Gloves light middleweight champion. He won the Light Middleweight Gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He won one version of the MW title.
