Joshua Clottey is probably the second best defensive boxer in the game right now, second only to Mayweather. The difference is Clottey likes to apply pressure on you while Mayweather prefers to land accurate potshots and counter punches while moving away. Question is... can Mayweather get through Clottey's superb defense and vice versa. :happyI think this would be a great match up for both fighters.
Hardly. I predicted a Mosley win over Margo...Margo was tailor made for Mosley. Mosley & Pac are essentially the same type of fighters though, both are extremely fast and both carry power. The main reason people favour Mosley is because he is a true WW...well if Pac beats or even KO's Cotto, would he not also be a TRUE WW? Comparing Pac & Mosley size aside, you would say Pac would post bigger problems for PBF because of his southpaw & akwardness. Mosley/pac are completely different types of fighters from Margo however...which is why Cotto had different results against each guys.
It's all about what goes down in the Pac/Cotto fight. If Pac kayo's Cotto, then obviously he can carry the weight and still get the job done. If he can't, I glad it's going to be Cotto who gets the credit for beating up a smaller guy and not Mayweather. Who I still think is good, but until he cleans out his own weight division of all comers, can't be considers a great champion.
Mayweather v Pac: which fighter has given Pac the most difficulty? A brilliant counterpuncher in Marquez. Who is the best counterpuncher in the sport, also has the best defense in the sport, is as fast as Pac and is a WW? Floyd. Do the math. This fight will be a rout in Floyd's favor.
You make a good case. The thing is styles make fights and stylistically Cotto is a better fight for Pac-man then Mayweather. Cotto is a puncher and Mayweather is a counter puncher. Pac is also a puncher so again "stylistically" Pac has a better chance of landing a knockout punch fighting Cotto then he does fighting Mayweather. In the end I think Pac will wear out Cotto because he has better hand speed and foot speed but that means nothing in a fight with Mayweather because he has the skill, speed and size to make the adjustments necessary to neutralize all of Pacs strenghts.
If Hopkins continues to fight then yes he is the second best and if not then it's probably Clottey. Again... "probably".
marquez style was suited to mayweather. a counterpuncher that just stood in front of him who is slow at that weight. lets see what floyd can do against the speed and quick flurries of pac. floyd can block 1 or 2 shots. lets see him him defend a pac flurry and in and out style.
I will not consider Pac a WW if he knocks out Cotto for the simple fact that they are not fighting at WW. I don't see Pac as big of a threat to PBF because of he's a Southpaw and Ackward, if anything because he's fast and strong. But stylisticly he is what Floyd preys off of a forward aggressive fighter. The toughest fight Pac had was against Marquez ( counter-puncher) and Morales ( boxer puncher). Floyd is a better counter puncher than Marquez and being bigger. Pac may take a couple rounds against Floyd but utimatly Floyds style will be too probematic for Pac.
It would be funny watching Pacquiao chickendance around the ring, but honestly I'd MUCH rather see Mayweather-Mosley and Pacquiao-Marquez III (preferably on the same card - best PPV ever!!)
Anyone that DOES NOT want to see a FMJ-Pac fight has no business watching boxing in the 1st place... this fight will be a tremendous boost for boxing both inside (due to the style clash & p4p thing) & outside the ring (millions of casual as well as serious boxing fans will tune into this, its massive.)
