Ive never really come across anyone who rates hearns higher but he couldve been and could be recognised as being the greatest from all 3!
The height made him unique, his speed, power, movement, toughness...and that RIGHT hand, boy was he one of the world's best when he was on top form.
Also he eventually did beat SRL (it was no way a draw), knocked out duran, and went a war with hagler which was a fight 10 out of 10 times you couldnt call it.
I truly think he couldve been regarded as a better talent and boxer than the other 3, what do y'all think, if not...who was the greatest out of them all, ive added a poll !

  2. Hearns is my personal favirote and actually i think he is the greatest of them all even from a neutral pint of view

    I love all 4.

It's a toss up between Leonard and Hearns for me though...

I'm going with Duran, although I thought he was much more impressive at the lower weights..I think he was amazing in his fights with De Jesus and the first fight with Leonard.

Although I am also a big Duran fan, so it may be a little biased

Very good question, hearns is one of my favourite fighters, he could of outboxed hagler but he chose to rumble which unfortunately led to his loss.

I think Sugar ray is just a tad bit in front despite him being in controversial decisions against the two best fighters he faced.

It's Duran by a street, Duran had 2 carrer sets, Dominated the lightweight division for the best part of a decade & then near on 30 years of age fought 2 divs up & beat the P4P goldenboy in SRL to become only the 2nd fighter in history to succesfully navigate his way from 135/147 when then there was only 2 governing bodies WBC/WBA & won the 154 at 32 & 160 at 37. first & only 135 Lineal champion to win the 160 lineal title & last man standing out of the fab 4.

Hearns is brilliant & Hagler being the undisputed champion makes it a tough call for 2 & 3 but Leonard has far too much contraversy surrounding his fight with Hagler when he avoided him for 5 years & the disgracefull bogus Super/Middle/Lt/Heavy dual title fiasco with LaLonde leave him a big last.

It's quite clearly Duran, with Leonard the obvious 2nd. You could argue Hearns has better achievements and even a better resume than Hagler, but the way their fight went and Marvin's dominance even it out.

    Duran: top 10
    Leonard: top 15 or so
    Hagler and Hearns: top 35-40.

It's not that clear cut IMO, regardless of SRL having victories over Benitez/Hearns/Hagler/Duran to much contraversy regarding Duran II & Hagler/LaLonde/Hearns II, catchweight contract rigging, ect, ect, & i don't think you'll find a Norris or Camacho on Tommies record.

Leonard has fantastic top wins, but past those 4 - and an excellent win over Kalule - Lalonde and Ranzanny are the best he's got. Duran easily has the deepest resume of the group, along with the single best win of any of them.

I'd go with Hearns without question, but then he's my all time, life long favorite.

Truth is it's probably Duran, then Tommy, then Leonard, then Hagler.

Duran: 103-16 record. Three weight champ. Probably the best light weight ever.

Hearns: 61-5 record. Six weight champ. Probably the best junior middle ever.

Leonard: 36-3 record. Five weight champ. Probably among the best welters.

Hagler: 62-3 record: Dominant middle weight champ. Certainly one of the best middles.

Historically Hearns did out acieve them all. He was best at welter / junior middle, however some of his performances at super middle and light heavy were against worthy fighters. I know his final IBO belt is a bit weak but how many welters move up to cruiser?

Hearns also gave the other three the fights of their lives. Leonard and Hagler in particular owe much of their own legacy to Hearns. Moreover Tommy's classic knockout of Duran is one of the sports defining moments.

For me Hearns was the most dramatic and exciting of the three. A unique boxing style and probably the best overhand right in the sports history. The way Hearns would shift from body to head when trading was spectacular. There was an almost artistic quality and a beauty to Hearns' boxing style but then I'm probably getting a bit carried away...

Finally, it always bothered me that Hearns never got the full credit for his historic achievements. Even today most fans think that Leonard was the first ever five weight champ, but it was Hearns - by three days!!!

Tragic to hear that Hearns has lost all his money.

I just credit Hagler for his game plan and execution of it rather than blame Hearns. Hearns did try to box and get some distance midway through the first, and fought in a much more box-and-move style from the 2nd round on, but Hagler kept getting to him, cutting off the ring, and getting Hearns on the ropes.

Once of the greatest displays ever of a boxer fighting differently from his usual style. Hagler played the bull to perfection, and did it against an ATG in Hearns.
