I see people saying "no way Sho lost money" and they bring up the average ppv buys. Well, unless you know something I don't about the deal, aggregate numbers don't mean sh*t normally. Typically a Sho or HBO get a SET AMOUNT of money, like 10 mil, to air a PPV. They normally never get a cut of PPV as they throw the risk to the promoter. So unless Sho are getting PPV dollars, they could easily take losses if the PPV revenue didn't cover the guarantees. How much 3 fights averaged wouldn't mean a thing. A monster success for them like Canelo wouldnt offset 2 misfires because their take would be capped. Is there a detailed breakdown of this deal that someone can direct me to? It makes zero sense for Floyd to give any PPV revenue to sho because HBO would still do it for a flat fee. I'm not saying they did lose money but insiders seem to think it is possible.
so you are telling me showtime is fully making and paying floyds base guarantee....but getting no ppv revenue? there just getting a flat fee? like 10 mil....yet they are the ones who are fully responsible for paying the base guarantee of floyds contract? thats just impossible...and would be a terrible way to do business no one knows exactly what the deal entails...its pretty confidential.... but most here act as if showtime owes floyd his 32 mil from their pockets....which i dont even think is fully true.....but if we were going on that theres no way they are getting a flat fee of 10 mil for the ppv......theres just no way 10 mil flat fee plus sponsors would cover that amount i think floyds guarantee you hear of is a combination of all sources....i cant imagine showtime is fully responsible for it we hear "floyd signs a deal with showtime....floyd is guaranteed 200 mil over 6 fights"....i just dont think those two things go hand in hand...i think its much more complicated than that....and many other sources of revenue are factored in
lets assume showtime gets a 10-15 flat fee for running the ppv.....and they also take in sponsorship money.....that seems logical and possible but yet...alot of posters here assume showtime is fully responsible/solely responsible for paying floyd his money....which is probably not the case.....so to assume showtime itself is losing money(if u think money is being lost on these fights) is stupid....wouldnt it be more like floyd himself is losing money? floyd and gb? floyd does alot of the promotional stuff himself....pays for advertising out of his own pocket and whatnot part of his revenue though also comes from concessions and merchandise...which no other fighter has a deal where they get cuts off that stuff.... everyone hear wants to go off like showtime is losing all this cake....i highly doubt it...
The guarantee kicks in on any amount below his guarantee. Sho don't pay him a cent unless his guarantee isn't covered by revenue. So only if a PPV bombed would Sho have to cover anything fight revenue didn't Let me ask you... why would Floyd leave HBO who would do it for a flat fee to go to a company he had to share PPV with?? He sells over a mil PPV so a 32 mil gua4antee is nothing as long as the numbers are good.
Im not saying they ARE losing, Im jus5 saying how they COULD lose... based on info available about how each party typically gets paid.
i guess the bottom line is there is no detailed breakdown of this arrangement...at least i havent seen one...maybe there is...otherwise i dont think well fully understand it people hear...."new deal with showtime....200 mil guaranteed"....and assume the two go completely hand in hand maybe show still takes a flat fee for the ppv like hbo did....maybe its just higher than hbos offer?....maybe the 200 mil guarantee is based of floyd/haymon/schaefer projections based off past fights and really more of their own end as opposed to showtime having anything to do with it?
It will be interesting to see if they do this again with another fighter...I doubt it because no one is more bankable than Floyd but if it worked out for them then who knows?
bottom line is in 3 fights duckweather lost sho money in 2 fights couldn't even break even in both fights ..........
