Ive seen him fight and I cant see how he has gained so much coverage. I see a decent yet ultimately flawed boxer who would struggle at European and Commonwealth level. Is this man the biggest hype job around?
ive seen 1 fight of his, against a short, semi fat journey man, where his face was torn apart. didnt look impressive at all. he shouldve adjusted must better, but aint his style. his chin seems excellent, eventhough that semi fat journey man, wasnt all that, he packed a hard right hand, but it didnt shock duddy. he just kept going forward. entertaining as hell. take andrade and they are comparable stylewise, just that andrade is much better, definetly is a class or 2 higher.. a fight between mora and duddy could be quite entertaining.
*tumbleweed drifts past* You know what it's like, whenever a hyped prospect suddenly has some tough problems (as Duddy did against Eastman and Smichet), people cool off really quickly on them. If he gets himself a big win, up will go the stock again.
I'm not saying this with hindsight but I've never rated the guy at world class and I really can't see how anyone could thing otherwise.
Duddy reminds me a lot of Edison Miranda. Strong Chin. Good Offensive skills. Heavily Flawed Defense. Like Miranda, Duddy makes up for his lack of defense by concentrating on offense and overwhelming with his opponents, but once he steps into the top ranks he'll start facing guys who have a much more complete package. And he'll get smoked.
Outside of Pavlik and Abraham and Oscar at 154, I Think Duddy more hold has own at 160 and 154:bart Look at ratings at 160 Duddy beats most of the top guys:nono WBC Champ Kelly Pavlik 1. Giovanni Lorenzo 2. John Duddy 3. Marco Antonio Rubio 4. David Lopez 5. Domenico Spada 6. Enrique Ornelas 7. Raul Marquez 8. Sebastian Zbik 9. Gennady Golovkin 10. Ronald Wright 11. Miguel Espino 12. Mahir Oral 13. Koji Sato 14. Renan St-Juste 15. Daniel Geale
Why are you looking at the WBC rankings? Look at the Ring ratings or use your own knowledge, because Winky is very low on that list and he would school Duddy, Sebastien Sylvester isn't on there he would probably beat Duddy, Sebastien Demers aswell. He's held his own at 160 because he's fought crap fighters, the best being a completely shot Yory Boy Campas, a shot Eastman aswell who he only just about beat and Walid Smichet who again he was lucky to get a decision against and was beating badly. EDIT: 154 is probably even worse for him, DLH, Spinks, Alcine, Dzinziruk, Forrest, Mora, these guys would all beat Duddy.
Probably. Where I come from, Walid Smichet, who exposed many of Duddy's flaws, is a bit of a running gag, throwing those loopy overhand punches, missing a lot. Shortly before fighting Duddy, Walid was also brought to school by Sebastien Demers, who is an OK boxer by local standards and whose international career sums up to being destroyed in three rounds by Arthur Abraham (a bad managerial move motivated by short-term greed in this case). Less than a year before, Walid got ktfo in round #1 by Renan St.Juste, a young prospect who is being slowly moved up. Of course, all these boxers, Smichet, Demers, St.Juste are million light years away from the current top middleweights. Duddy - who somehow gets more coverage than some of the top 10 MW - struggled nonetheless to beat the weakest of the three boxers.
Duddy screwed up big time in the Smichet fight. He was looking so far past Smichet that he hired Ross Thompson as a sparring partner because at the time Thompson was the last guy to go the distance with Pavlik (8 rounds.) I'm not going to say Duddy is **** based on that fight. On the other hand, His team should not let him anywhere near Pavlik. He should be fighting at the McKart, Marquez, Ornelas level. With Pat burns as his trainer he could fight say 2 out of the 3 guys I mentioned, and we might see real improvement. For now, yes, Duddy is over-rated. Let me give you an example; if Zuniga were to move back down to 160, he would eat Duddy alive! And Mora has a good chance of winning a UD against Duddy. However, working with Pat Burns will probably help him.
I could think of a dozen fighters at 154 and 160 who would not just beat Duddy, they would either school him over 12 rounds or KO him.
if duddy is able to beat raul marquez convincling id say hes alright but as of now he is so overrated
